cruise?

ok so want to go on a cruise in september with dh and ds. ds will be 18 months. we wanted to go on the oasis of the seas, but while thinking about it, we realized it will be too much to fly with him because he does not want to sit still for more than ten minutes... so we thought it would be better to cruise out of new york or nj... somewhere that we could drive to not too far.. so i would like to go to carribbean, preferably southern, or if not eastern. 7-9 nights or so... thoughts? opinions? anyone been? tia!

Re: cruise?

I'm facing the same predicament of needing to cruise out of NY/NJ because my 2yo. DS does not like to sit buckled in an airline seat.

Also am booking a cruise for about the same time and missed the kids sail free NCL deal that just expired 2 days ago so am now looking for other deals. :P

If you like RCCL, the Explorer cruises out of the Bayonne port to the Caribbean. Or you can do a Bermuda or Bahamas cruise or even a Canada/New England cruise.

Look at vacationstogo.com for cruise ideas, then visit cruisecompete.com to get prices from multiple online agents.

Re: cruise?

Just an FYI, they will not allow kids under two and that are not potty trained into their pools, so if you can bring a small blow up pool, thats what alot of ppl did on our cruise when we went..

yup MOST if not all cruise lines won't allow it...DD is big for her age so we got away with it sometimes but sometimes the staff would actually come up to us and some other ppl trying to do it....we ended up finding a secluded pool that no one knew about it that she played in I think it was a small kiddie pool on a very upper deck but there was no shade to sit in so it sucked a little..but yah most cruise lines will NOT allow any child not potty trained or under the age of 2 to go in to the pool due to sanitary reasons

The better question is, what do you do with the potentially feces infected water once you're done with it. Chat Icon

oops sorry, yah u take the pool water, the staff was nice enough to help. Also you just dump the water on the deck when ur done. You don't have that much water in the tiny pool for a small child so it won't be that much

Ok, so I'm going to sound insensitive here...and granted I'm CF....
I'm glad cruises say that non-potty-trained kids can't be in pools. Regardless of the chlorine, it's really icky!

And I think I'm more grossed out that if you bring your own pool and a kid does pee in it, that it just gets dumped onto the deck!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Am I the only one here?
(I have a feeling I'm going to get ripped a new one for this...)

No, you're not the only one. It should be dumped directly in a drain. It must be lovely when people walk thru the water and then trail pizz and crap water everywhere.

They won't dump it in a drain for the same reason why kids can't go into the pool and usually if you're on a good cruise line the staff is pushing the water off the boat with the brooms. An no offense but you're not going to be walking in a trail of piss and crap...a bit dramatic. If your child does have an accident in the pool do you think you're going to let him just happily play in that....you're going to clean it up and the staff will usually help you clean up the water etc....Sorry but you're making a little bit of a big deal over absolutely nothing. I've been on some of the best and luxurious hotels everywhere and have seen kids have accidents all the time in their pools and what happens the staff cleans it up....So if thats going to bother you than I suggest going on an adult only vacation where they dont' allow any kids period....

Sorry don't want to start drama, I never do, but I just felt that this was a bit dramatic about walking through a trail of "piss and crap"

ETA: Usually diapers keep in the piss and crap and most parents dont allow their kids to roam around naked in the pool

I disagree. Putting it down a shower or deck drain and then rinsing the drain with water is a lot better than just dumping it on the deck where people are walking around with bare feet, or brushing it off the side of the boat (balcony, anyone?)

If the diapers kept everything inside, then there would be no problem with letting them in the main pool. The reason they arent allowed in the pools is because swim diapers don't keep everything in.

You say that you would never let your kid play in it, but how would you know that your kid peed in their small pool?

I'm not getting into a debate about this, but the reason being not putting it down a drain on a cruise ship is that they won't! The drainage system is an enclosed one so they have to be careful hence why kids can't go into the pool bc it could go into the drainage system...I'm not sure about the exact details but I remember reading about this and this is why putting it down a drain they will not do...honestly its not something im going to debate..ive been on numerous cruises and I would say the majority of ppl with kids did this

Also, I think its more of a courtesy to not put your kid in the main pool and do this, but I guess damned if u do and damned if u dont...ull always find ppl that will find something to complain about

I traveled with a baby on Liberty of the Seas last year. If your child is not potty trained they cannot go to the pool (bc the water is not chlorinated - I thought it was sea water). Anyway, there was a baby area called 'BABY SPLASH ZONE'. Only little ones and their parents allowed...

It just a small area off the H2O Zone, with 2 inches of water...

:)

Have fun!Chat Icon

This is what the splash zone for babies looks like:

The babies aren't allowed in the pools because if they poop in it, they have to drain the entire pool and clean it, which isn't cost effective or logical to do on a cruise ship full of paying passengers. Not to mention an outbreak of stomach viruses which spread like wildfire from fecal matter in a pool.
