I have not even seen any mention in the papers recently either.

I heard on NPR (leonard lopate or brian lehrer) that union leaders are pushing for DOE to let teachers know before summer vacation as a courtesy.
Sounds like bloomberg is making threats again (I think they said there hasn't been layoffs in NYC since the 70's?)...most LI schools notified their teachers months ago.
