Should I? I am a coffee drinker and

I drink my large coffee every morning with half and half and sugar.

I am really trying to eat better, but I won't give up my coffee.

Should I change to fat free half and half and splenda? Sometimes that artificial stuff is actually worse for you, so should I stick with the real stuff?

I'm a firm believer in the real stuff....try going for the fat free H & H or switch to 2% (or less) milk?

Re: Should I? I am a coffee drinker and

I use Splenda or Equal but lately after all we've been hearing I am having my doubts.

I would try the fat free half and half with sugar. Sugar does add more calories though. Maybe cut back the amt of sugar?

Re: Should I? I am a coffee drinker and

I would definitely switch to Fat Free Half & Half. Land O' Lakes makes a really good one. DH & I both have been drinking it for years and really like it...you don't notice a difference until you're out somewhere and you use the real half and half..., but then you just remember it's a treat.Chat Icon
I would stick with the real sugar, but start limiting the number of teaspoons you use. Years ago I would put 3 teaspoons in my coffee. I gradually started cutting down and for about 7 years I've been using no sugar. I love it sooooo much more!

Re: Should I? I am a coffee drinker and

I would just try to enjoy coffee without all that! The more you eat sweets, the more you crave them. If you startt to lessen the amout you putt in each time you just might enjoy coffee with just some regular milk.

Fat and sugar together is a very bad combination.

how much sugar do you put in?

I also need my cup of coffee in the morning Ive cut down from about 3-4 cups / day to 1 cup now. I like the taste of creamer but I use coffee mate, its still creamy but not as bad for you. I also use splenda instead of sugar.

Sometimes I find if you use fat free stuff you end up having to use more of it than the real thing, and then the amt of calories taken in is about the same.

Re: Should I? I am a coffee drinker and

I would try switching first to the fat free half and half, and then maybe 1% milk. I have gotten used to skim milk in my coffee, but I know many people can't. I also just eventually gave up the sugar, I really don't like the taste of the equal or the splenda in coffee.

I am sort of a coffee snob, and I also find that the better quality the coffee, the less I need to use sugar. So, I make my own coffee at home and take it with me in a travel mug. Trader Joes has really good blends, that are not too expensive and I brew some of the Starbuck's or Green Mountain blends also, which I usually buy at Target.

ETA: You have to watch the dried creamers, too, a lot of them have hydrogenated oils in them.

Christine, I am going to try and decrease how much sugar I put in it. I would say about 2 - 3 spoonfuls of sugar.

I'll try whole milk.

I guess if I gave up soda I can work on this, less sugar and whole milk.

But I can't give up my coffee.

no need to give up coffee!
Just think about it...

having 3 sugars WITH half and half is no different than having 4 hershey's kisses....every morning! you are cheating every morning for breakfast!
