LEEDS Academy or Brookville Old Westbury-Feedback?

Today at DSs CPSE meeting, the possibility of enrolling him in one of the schools above in the Fall was raised. I searched the archives, but I don't see much feedback on either school. Does anyone have information to share? I'm waiting to hear if there are even spots at either school, and then of course, we need to see if DS is accepted.

I've also gotta say, DS was diagnosed with PDD-NOS a few months ago, and more than anything, this hit me like a ton of bricks, my child does need help. But on the other hand, I am delighted that the CPSE committee is offering this as an option. I think being in a setting like this would help him so much more than the general daycare he attends now. But it makes it all very real somehow.

I don't know anything about their program.

What are you looking for? A PT/FT program? What ratio? What area does DC needs emphasis on?

I am looking for a full-time program for him--right now, DS goes to a daycare while I work, however it is geared towards general education, not special education at all. The teachers are sweet, but they do not know how to help him.

DS primarily needs (a lot) of help with his social skills, play skills, and communication with peers. If he is comfortable with an adult, he can usually communicate reasonably well with that person. But children his age, forget it, he's lost. His verbal IQ scores are very high, but his pragmatic language scores and expressive language are much lower. This is all a roundabout way of saying he needs assistance using what he knows.

He also needs OT, both for fine motor skills and sensory dysfunction.

TIA!

Re: LEEDS Academy or Brookville Old Westbury-Feedback?

My daughter was born at 29 weeks and 5 days. We had her CPSE meeting on May 27 they approved her for a intergrated class setting i visit suny old westbury school as well as the leeds school. I just got a call from suny old westbury that they feel that a class setting of 12 will be too big for her. I am really up set. Eventhough, suny old westbury school did not impress me that much i like that it was on a college
campus.

My daughter is bright she has not been around alot of children. I think because she did not open up they based that on not accepting her. Because it is so late for shools all of the good schools are not available. So i have limited choices.
I did not hear from the leeds school yet and marucs avenue school in new hyde park. I will not give up. I know that my daughter will thrive in atypical class setting. She can be very stubborn at times. She has been getting EI since she was 6 months old and has come a long way.

She amazes me what she can do. She is currently getting speech, ot, pt, and has a seit. She will remained in EI until august. She has not been diagnosed with any disorders.
