strange gyno experinece
I went to the dr for a regular annual check up, and was clearly frustrated with TTC - We've been trying for about 4 months, but not crazy trying - I just thought it would have happened by now because I have a regular cycle.
the dr said that "because of my age" (35) she recommends that I give it to the end of the summer and then we can start testing. So I started crying in the office because I was expecting the "well give it a year speech."
I also flashed back to when I was 29 or 30 sitting in her office and she made me painfully aware that I was not young anymore.
I do have a healthy DC that I had when I was 32 with no issues.
I guess my question is - is this the normal for a dr. to be that aggressive to move to testing? I really didn't think 35 was that old for having a baby. Am I just out of touch or something? My boss had a baby at 42 and my girlfriend is 37 and just had a baby.

Re: strange gyno experinece
its normal after 35 to wait six months to do further testing. actually i would be glad the doc wants to be proactive! i am 35 and yup it sucks to be considered of "advanced materal age" but if you want a baby you will do anything to get one! i hope you feel better!!

Re: strange gyno experinece
you are not old at all!!!!! I'll be 39 in Oct. and am trying for no. 2.
I did hear that at 35 and over its recommended to see an RE after six months of trying as opposed to a year...so maybe that's why she suggested it.
I try to stay positive about being an older mom...most of the people in my life all had healthy babies in the mid to late thirties...I have one friend now that is pregnant at 41. And another friend that is 39 and preggo. Personally, i just try to take really good care of myself..Don't feel bad about your age..you still have plenty of time. I won't lie, i wish i was younger, but stressing out about it doesn't help.
Remember 40 is the new 30!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

35 is NOT old to have a baby BUT it does get harder every single year to concieve! Sounds like you have a great doctor who is proactive about TTC!

Re: strange gyno experinece
I just turned 30 and my gyno had "the talk" with me about me getting older. I can relate because it is upsetting to hear. But my mom had me at 35, and my brother at 38 and that was a lonnnng time ago. I'm sure you won't have any problems but it's good that your doctor is being proactive just in case

Re: strange gyno experinece
Many of my friends and family members haven't had their children until their mid to late thirties. I dont think you're out of touch at all. That being said, from a scientific standpoint, it does get more difficult to conceieve as your quality of eggs gets lower after 30. Now many women are achieving other goals (career, home, etc) before moving on to children. I think it's a wonderful time to have children as your settled and in most cases more financialy prepared. Your doctor is just being honest about the potential complications. But you are not old!

Re: strange gyno experinece
While we don't think that 35 or older is old for having a baby (i'm 38 PG with my first) in the medical field over 35 is considered advanced maternal age. That by no means you can't or won't get PG. Woman stil get PG easily after that age but I think the Dr just put it out there because for many women it does get more difficult. It took me 2 years for me to get my BFP. My issue low egg quality and that had eveything to do with my age.

Re: strange gyno experinece
35 and up is called advanced reproductive age. Recommended testing is after 6months of trying. I think its great that your dr is agressive!

Re: strange gyno experinece
I am 40 and trying for #2. I had #1 at 39. It is hard, but I had a completely normal pregnancy and a beautiful healthy little girl. I did seek the help of an RE after 6 months with #1 and if I am not pg this month (8th month ttc) I will be seeing my RE in July. BUT, I have 2 friends who conceived on their own and gave birth at 38. Do not think because of your age you age it is not going to happen. It truly happens every day

I have no experience with age...but I don't think 35 is old at all. My mom had my sister at 40!

Re: strange gyno experinece
35 is not old to have a baby! I will be 34 at the end of the month and DH and I are trying for our first. DH and I have been TTC but not crazy..but we know we have to step it up a notch. I went to my gyno for a regular exam and I talked to her about DH and I TTC. She asked for how long we have been trying and would like to send me for blood work to make sure everything is okay with my body that I have no issues. She said it can take anywhere from 6 months to a year to get pregnant. But if your not not actively trying it won't happen I keep telling myself! I don't understand why she wants you to wait to have tests runned. Do you like you Gyno? Has she always been this aggressive with you? If you are unhappy maybe you should switch! I have a great Gyno! She talks to me and listens to me and answers all my questions..I never feels rushed!!!

Intresting to know. I just turned 36 in October. We have been trying since February. I actually have to make an appt with my gyno for the summer so if nothing happens by then, I will see what she says.

Re: strange gyno experinece
I'd be happy my dr wanted to test! I'm 31 and my dr tested after only a few months of TTC. I'm glad she did b/c both DH and I have fertility issues. We're going to see a specialist for DH this week...and I'm so much happier going now rather than a year from now!
