Music classes with DC
Anyone sign up for music classes with their child?
My neighbor told me that she attended a Music Together (I think that's the name of it) class with her daughter and she loved it!!
Anyone know of this or any other music class?
Thanks!

Re: Music classes with DC
I took Music Together with DD#1 until she was 2, and the same with DD#2. It is a great class (but a lot of it is your teacher - as with any class they make or break it). I liked the teacher we had for DD#2 better than DD#1. I like that they give you a song book and 2 CD's of the songs so the children know the songs during class and can sing and play along.

Re: Music classes with DC
We did a trial class of Music Together when DD#1 was about a year and a half. She was waaaay too antsy to really enjoy the class. Nothing really got her attention except the table and chairs she kept stacking and climbing on. So we didn't continue but I know plenty of people that do those classes and LOVE them. My DD was just way too active to really enjoy the class at all.

DD has gone to Music for Aardvarks and Jitterbugs music class (we're in Brooklyn). She LOVED them so much and loves music so much that we hired Darlene Graham to perform at her 1st bday party. Huge hit!

Re: Music classes with DC
DS has gone to two sessions of Music Together now. We are taking a break for the summer but plan on going back in the fall. DS absolutely LOVES class and I enjoy it as well. You can definitely find local Music Together classes by going on their website. We go in Rockville Centre and I love DS's teacher.
I'm going to miss music class this summer.

We went to the Garden City location but there are tons of places.
It really depends on your teacher - DD#1 has never been a sitter - but she loved to dance the whole class. Our teacher encouraged the children to get up and dance and move around - but it depends on the teacher. If you don't like your teacher consider switching to someone else before giving up.
DD#2's teacher is great - she is very energetic and the kids really respond to her.
Are you going to Not just art?

Re: Music classes with DC
We did a class at Just not art in Oyster Baby, it was fun but we never signed up for a full session. (they have other locations in Huntington, Plainview & Garden City)
Gymboree has a music class, whenever we had our regular class, I'd see everyone in there and it looked like fun.

Re: Music classes with DC
I've been taking DD to Music Together since she was six months. She's 1.5 today, and loves it more than ever.
I've also taken some trial Music for Aardvarks classes, and they are great too.
This is all in Brooklyn. I do think it all depends on the teacher. I like the Aardvarks music better, but LOVE my local music together teacher.

Re: Music classes with DC
We just finished our 3rd semester of Music together and I see the benefits in Ds' love of dancing and music. We are taking our fourth semester in the Fall. I started when DS was 9mos...... we did a trial of Kindermusik when we were searching and I did not care for it at all.

ITA
I dont find it suitable for children over 18 mths, despite what they say.
I recently took my DD, since it says all ages. She was the oldest child, all babies and she was telling me "mommy, let's go". She wanted to go play on the swings outside. She wanted to go investigate the building. I def don't recommend music together for older kids.

Re: Music classes with DC
Music for Aardvarks is another great class out there- more 'trendy' than Music Together (though the music teacher in me sees the 'quality' of the latter). If you watch Nick Jr you'll see/hear some Music for Aardvarks stuff on Jack's Big Music Show or those Move to the Music segments.
Definitely agree that the teacher can make or break it. We had a pretty lousy teacher, but Riley was just a year old so I don't think it had that much effect on her...as you can imagine I was more into the class than she was and trying to keep her engaged! All she wanted to do was crawl around and explore the room. A year later, nothing has changed. Well, except that she walks now.
