LOTE Teachers....
What did we think of the exam today?
I'm speaking of the Spanish only here - I didn't have a chance to look at the French yet.
I thought it was fair - I didn't *love* it, there was a lot of higher-order thinking skills involved and all of the updates to the answer key were a little much... Some of the questions even I had trouble narrowing down an answer. 
Overall, my students did well - I had a 93% mastery rate and 100% passing! (out of my 62 that took the exam  )
How did your classes do? What did you think?

I was not happy about all the ones that had mulitple answers. I did not like the question about the times since it was a mess and the times were inaccurate. I thought the writing prompts were 7th grade and too easy given the ease of the rubric. I had 3 fail. I thought their grades were on the higher end and didnt hold them to the same level that we as a department hold them to all year.
For a first effort it was a good attempt. It will be interesting to see next years.

We had more people fail the Spanish Regents this year than the last 4 or 5 years COMBINED. 
I have no idea what happened. My department is in shock.

So these tests won't be audited right? I am curious as to what my dep thinks. I wouldn't know I'm on childcare leave

I don't know. Grading them was the biggest pain in the butt with the new answer sheets, having to bubble everything in, keep all the kids in alphabetical order rather than by class.... I don't know how much of it was my school's rules and how much was new state mandates.
But I do know that our school told us that they'd be scanning and analyzing the data, comparing teachers' results, looking for too many 65's and 85's. Real "Big Brother" kind of stuff.

That's offensive IMO..ugh..can't they treat us like the professionals we are. Such a mess. Sorry...i just had to say that.

The regents this year is a still a regents- next year it will be made like the proficency by collegues. The FLACS is not state governed so they can not call it from my understanding.
The stats are due to the new state evaluations that 40% of our evals come student test scores and since it starts with English and I think Math next year they have to start gathering stats on us since most students will not come in with 6 yrs of test scores behind them in their LOTE language
