GF/CF Diet

Hi all,

I have been reading alot online...practically every site.

Does anyone know of a good gluten-free, cassein free milk substitue? Right now the twins are on Silk Soy. But I am thinking there may still be allergens in it that we should try to eliminate from their diet. Should I try a Rice Milk?

Thank you!

We use Almond Breeze almond milk (regular/not flavored) and DC loves it. Obviously won't work if your child is allergic to almonds, but for us it has been great. I got the ok from the pediatrician before we started and at his suggestion we slowly introduced, I.e., 1/5 almond milk to 4/5 regular milk (or whatever we were using at the time, maybe soy). Took about a week.

Good luck! I found the diet hard to do at first, but now that I am more familiar with it, not bad at all.

We use Coconut milk. My son LOVES it. He has an intolerance to say, so that was a no no. Rice milk binded him, and that was our big issure with him was his constipation.
Almond milk has high salicilates (spelled that wrong) which my one dr. said to stay away from.

Re: GF/CF Diet

Efalex is great-just tastes like lemon ! Always give the fish oil with a food product. So you can add it to apple sauce or drizzle on chicken. The body processes it better that way.

Go for coconut milk. Coconuts are so good for you. Also enzymes can help break down dairy, so seeing a nutritionist can also help.

Coconut water is filled with minerals as well, so if you can get that into him , my dd's nutritionist highly recommends it.

I know this has nothing to do with Gluten Free, but EPSOM SALT baths are really crucial to any type of 'behaviors" because it helps detoxify the body. Most "behaviors" are because the body is under "stress".

My dd loves waffles so we make maple grove gluten free waffles with a waffle iron. It's pretty simple to make once you get into the groove. You can make a huge one and use it for a few meals. You can also use it as "bread"...Since it's a belgian waffle, we slice it half and then make sandwiches.

Glutino pretzel sticks are great.

Glutino pizza dough (it's round and already prepared),we add our own sauce and then you can go with immitation cheese.

Bell and Evans Gluten Free Chicken Nuggets are great !

Coconut Yogurt-Stop and Shop has it, as well as Wild By Nature etc

I try to stay away from Soy products because soy does affect hormones.

My dd is not totally GF or CF but we try to limit the amount.

OMG! Thanks for the great responses!
You ladies are wonderful...I was just talking to one of you today Chat Icon and I mentioned there is sooo much information out there that I am in overdrive.

I just have to figure out a game plan and I think everything will work itself out.

So I went to Trader Joe's and picked up their Organic Rice Drink to try it out on the boys.

DS (Twin A) loved it and seemed a little different today (can't put my finger on it ) much happier kid shorter period of time to rebound from a meltdown...perhaps it was just a better day than yesterday

DS (Twin B-typical) loved it too! He has bad GI issues and eczema so I presume he will have a constipation problem from the rice milk at which point I'll change it over to coconut milk...

Here's my Q:

Should I just switch to coconut? I wanted to and I have heard its great but I'm afraid DS Twin B will have a reaction to it...I was reading on some website that a SEVERE reaction can occur. That it may contain nuts?? But then I hear that the coconut is very good for eczema.

I figure I want them both on a GF/CF diet to the extent I can manage finding products.

With the coconut milk what supplements would be needed?

What supplements are needed with the rice milk?

All these boxes say "not to be used as infant formula" so I feel like I may be taking vital things from their diet that they need in order to develop. Right now they get 1ml polyvisol; 5ml cod liver oil for omega 3; 1 packet of this supplement called BrainStrong and a probiotic Culturell Each morning...

What am I missing??? Chat Icon Chat Icon

You ladies have been sooooo helpful and supportive...thank you Chat Icon Chat Icon
