15 months and constipated - HELP PLEASE
my daughter is 15 months - she's a little "backed-up". She's going, but pushing REALLY hard and coming out like nuggets. She even had a little bit of blood (a little streak - if it happens again i'll call the pediatrician, but it was only one little streak) because she pushed so hard.
Any suggestions on what I can give her (food wise) that'll help to keep her stool soft? What shouldnt she have??
TIA

pear juice. I mix 4oz of pear juice and 4oz of water.
I do it daily because DD is regularly like this.

Re: 15 months and constipated - HELP PLEASE
Try giving her prunes and pears. Earth's Best makes stage 1 prunes. The pears I did baby food sometimes and fresh also (i thought he ate more pear if it was jarred). I also made sure to keep him well hydrated; I only give him water but the ped mentioned pear juice and prune juice.
Avoid bananas and apples. Also limit white bread and white rice. Try whole grain bread and brown rice.
DS recently had some poopie issues and this was what the ped told me to do. GL!

Re: 15 months and constipated - HELP PLEASE
Flax seed mixed into food - I mix it into yogurt. Just started this and it's helped TREMENDOUSLY!!! DD was crying when she was pushing and nothing was coming out...then when it finally would it was so big and hard and she cried so hard getting it out. Flax seed has really helped. Also just up the fiber in her diet.

Re: 15 months and constipated - HELP PLEASE
DD and DS both have this problem.
DD I used to give her prune juice in her bottle/cup.
DS will actually eat prunes, so I give him 4 spoons of prunes EVERY morning. Keeps things moving along without exploding.

Re: 15 months and constipated - HELP PLEASE
ive just realized that our little guy is probably so constipated because we give him too much milk
does your little one drink a lot of milk or eat a lot of dairy? maybe cut back a little
our pediatrician also recommended a teaspoon of benefiber in his food or bottle...
ps- he had been eating prunes, and we tried giving him prune juice every single day- to the point where he hates seeing the spoon with the purple stuff coming at him...
good luck

prune juice - I gave her 4 oz the first time she was like this mixed with 4 oz of water. It did the trick. Now I give her 2 oz mixed with 6 oz of water daily. It works.

Re: 15 months and constipated - HELP PLEASE
Pear juice is the only thing that works on DS. 4-6 ounces a day and he is good to go. Been using it on him since about 6 months old. He is now 20 months old. Try and cut back on his dairy intake. I notice DS starts to get constipated if he has too much yogurt and other dairy products..

Re: 15 months and constipated - HELP PLEASE
Thanks for all the tips!
She had pears this morning with her oatmeal and I tried giving her prune juice with some water, but she wasnt really into it. Just kept asking for water. My mom (she watches her on fridays) gave her some prunes this morning and ate the whole container! fortunately it was a stage 1 food, so it was a little container...i'm sure mom will pay for that later on! LOL
I'll be cutting back on the dairy products (cheese and yogurt) too. I am going to the Pediatrician next week for another round of vaccinations, so i'll see if he recommends benefiber or flax seed too...
as always...thanks again!

I find prunes does teh trick every single time. Just the puree prunes from Gerber- mixed in with cereal or straight. She seems to like the taste too
