If you sew using a sewing machine, how did you learn?
I want to learn how to use a sewing machine...is it worth it to take a class?

I bought a sewing machine and had no clue where to start. I found a class at Sew What's New and they encourage you to bring your own machine, so I did. They walked me through all the basics for how to use the machine and we made a great project. It was fun and lasted 2 or 3 wks I think.
Also continuing education classes in the local school district often have sewing classes. Depending on the size, they will sometimes teach you how to use the machine.

They should do them, at least the larger locations. I learned just by watching my mom sew when I was younger but I would def love to take some classes to learn more.

I have never sewn anything, now I have my own business with a friend and we sew dresses and clothes etc. I taught myself. I asked for recommendations on here, bought a sewing machine (nothing too $$$$) watched the DVD it came with and started playing around. It is a very user friendly machine. I do have to say I think my late grandmother is possessing my body and teaching me to sew  she was a seamstress. That is the only explanation I can come with for my new found talent and love for sewing.

That's amazing! Which sewing machine do you have? Love that is comes with a DVD :)
