Finances, Money, Injustice, not sure what this is....

I'm trying to word this so as not to be judgmental so just cut me some slack please.

DH got a call from his ex on Saturday and she was letting him know that she applied for financial aid for SS and was denied. She feels that she may have messed up the paperwork (well that's a surprise!!!!!! ). She slipped and told DH that last year, their income was $51,000 for a family of 5 - which INCLUDES DH's child support of $16,000/year. Now, mind you, both her and her DH do not work - by choice. They sell tickets online and i'm almost positive that they don't report this income so i'm assuming they get some sort of unemployment, I have no idea.

This has been an ongoing issue for us for years. She has never liked working and always crying poor me, poor me. She has stated on numerous occasions that DH's check every week doesn't go a long way and that she doesn't have money for clothing and extras for the kids because she is feeding 5 people. HELLO!!!! Last I checked, the money we send is for our 2 kids only! A $300 payment for 2 kids is not enough?! No - according to her, this is for her entire living expenses for her whole family to spend as she sees fit. We feel bad for the kids a lot and give much, much more, buy them clothes, give them paypal cards with spend money every week, pay for sports - we do as much as we can. I have to admit, I am a bit resentful but I will take it and deal with it if it means that the kids will have what they need.

Anyway, she has planned yet another trip to Florida!!!! (Father's Day / Graduation Party for my SS weekend). She just got back from Puerto Rico (supposedly, for the death of her husbands uncle) and spend almost 2 months in Florida last year. Yet - she constantly cries poverty. GET A JOB!!!!!!!!!

I am resentful. I have to say. Every time SD tells me how she stays home from school and her mom and stepdad are sitting there drinking coffee or going away, it burns me up. We work HARD! DH and I are both up at the butt crack of dawn (4:30am every day) commute over 3 hours a day, have a mortgage, put money away in savings and do the right thing but here she is living the life of luxury with her whopping $51K a year for a family of 5 - is it just me of is this ABSURD?!

I'm sorry, i'm having one of those days and knowing that she is going away is eating and eating at me!!!!

I forgot to mention, they are renting a house which SUPPOSEDLY was a "rent to buy" and again, someone skrewed her over (story of her life, riiiight) and now the house is in foreclosure, she hasn't paid rent in over 1.5 years and they're about to evict her family of 5 any day. Yet, NOBODY wants to work.

I'm tired. I want a vacation. Woe is me.

Sorry for the annoying vent but is anyone else experiencing this or did I just hit the psycho jackpot?!

This happens more than you think (not me but I have friends that have this problem).

It is expensive to raise kids, yes. But if you don't work and take trips, well then....

She sounds like a gem

My SD's mother is a waitress....So most of her money is off the books (get where I'm going with this )

Anyhow, she works a whopping 1 full day and 2 nights a week...When she went to court asking for an increase in support, the judge asked her why she doesn't work more hours now that both her children are in school...

Her answer : so that she could be home with them Yet, the hours she chooses to work are when they are HOME not in school ....

Needless to say, no increase was given ...

Its so unfair that while we work so hard and other don't they get to go on vacations! Don't worry she's not going to be getting child support her whole life and she's going to be sh!t out of luck when that happens.

My DS's father hasn't paid child support in about 4 years yet he bought a 5 bedroom house with a pool down south where he lives and has the nerve to tell me about it. I'm like well half that house is mine cause thats where my child support went! He works off the books and I'm struggling to pay my mortgage

That's absurd. Just think of the joy you will feel when your DH sends that last support check in just a few short years. Think of the vacation you can go on in celebration!! Tahiti? Dubai? The options are just endless!

That's a lot of unreported income. I'd report them to the IRS.

If I wasn't such a fan of Karma, believe me, I would!! :)

We are actually steaming because she is bringing up yet ANOTHER trip to Florida where she will mooch off of more people who will just hand her room and board. It really burns me up, especially when i'm getting up at 4:30am daily for work and breaking my butt!!!!!!

We have the same issues SD mother. She always cries poverty, the money you send me is not enough, blah, blah, blah. She has a daughter with her bf, she is the only one that works, her boyfriend doesn't work but yet he likes going to concerts, plan trips that they both go on, he never brings SD and his own daughter, scumbag. I really believe that some people are not meant to be parents.
