Does anyone here rescue cats?

A friend of mine is going to euthanize cat. She is devastated. She lost her job, fore closed on her house and now her parents won't let her take her cat back home with her because her mom is severely allergic. I wish I could help her out but I have a cat already and can't fit another one. He is part main coon five years old.

She said there is a place in Bayshore it's a clinic of some sort, she actually has been taking him here for years. It breaks my heart. She mentioned that she called a few shelters and they were filled. I feel the pressure is on me.

Re: Does anyone here rescue cats?

have her check out town of huntington's pound. you have to drop off "strays" at the pound and than grateful paw will take the cat from the pound once they have room.

Tell her to bring the cat to a no kill shelter. Try the Little Shelter in Huntington.

Re: Does anyone here rescue cats?

I think someone on pets was looking for a Maine Coon cat. Please post a thread on there.

Try calling Little Shelter in Huntington, not sure of who else to call.

On another note, not meant for you, you are trying to help but that is pretty despicable that someone will kill their cat just b/c they are in a bind. Thats pretty disgusting.

So the girl should live in her car? On the street? What?

I find it pretty disgusting that you are saying this when you don't even know the details.

I have to agree that its pretty severe for someone to put down a cat just b/c they dont have a place to stay, especially since there are shelters where the cat atleast has a chance to be adopted.

I kind of have to agree. Everyone says, "Oh, bring them to a no kill shelter" as though no kill shelters have an infinite number of cages just waiting for animals. I trapped a feral kitten a few weeks ago and the no-kill shelter turned us away.
Here's a little known fact I ALSO learned...... some no killl shelters bring "unadoptable" animals to kill shelters to make room for more adoptable pets.

To the OP: I hope your able to help your friend. If she has an ad on Craigslist maybe link it here, I'd be happy to post about it on FB.Chat Icon

Going by the details the OP posted, yes, I stand by what I said. I have nothing else to go by other than what the OP said and that is what I respond to.

I have to agree, I would live in my car with my pets before I put them down. To the OP I hope you are able to find a solution for your friend. What about keeping the cat in one room of the home she's moving into?

Agreed... What if someone has a family with kids and looses their job, and can't afford to put food on the table? Would they get rid of the kids? Chat Icon

Ah dont even go there. You know you will hear how pets and children are not the same.Chat Icon Bottom line is it's a life YOU have committed to taking care of and that means through thick and thin, no matter what, and it's YOUR job to find your pet a new home if you must rehome them. Not have them killed and dumped like trash, I dont care how tough things are.Chat Icon

FYI: My sister's friend does this. She catches feral cats and brings them to a vet (relationship already established) to have them fixed and then she releases them.

Shelters are packed -- my sister helped someone rehome a dog and it took close to 6 months for a spot in this area to become available. Most of the places didn't even call her back.

I would look into putting a listing on Petfinder, craigslist, LIF, FB and places like that. Talk to their vet and yours...they may have some advice for you. If the cat is a Maine Coon - maybe they have a rescue service or find out about fostering.

Good luck! Chat Icon

Yeah- I'm not even getting into what our situation is it's been going on that long. Lets just say hundreds have been laid out (by me)to TnR and our neighbor continues to sabotage it. I'm done. All cats DH traps are now going to the Humane Society.

Sorry for the hijack OP!

She should research all possibilites before going the euthanization route thats what she do.

Putting a healthy LIVE creature to sleep because your living situation changes is wrong and despicable.

I find it disgusting that some people think this is a solution for innocent and healthy animals.

Agreed. This just breaks my heart.. I hope the poor cat finds a home. Whatever situation she is in, killing a creature is not the way out.

To the OP: I'm sorry you are getting all the commentary without a real solution to possible way to help this cat.. I wish I knew how. Bless your heart for helping this defensless creature. I still can't believe this...
