Breast Surgeon for Cancer Recs
So I recently found out that I had breast cancer and I found a breast surgeon that I really like but I do want to get a second opinion.
Everyone keeps talking about Sloan but I can't even get them on the phone. I'm hoping for someone on Long Island in Suffolk. TIA!
Update 7/20:
So I like the first doc but I am going to get a second opinion at Sloan. My app is next week. Can't believe I have to wait. Like this is for a nail appointment or something.  Anyway, Sloan wants to see the original biopsy slide and they will do their own tests on it so that can rule out error with the first lab so that is comforting.

Dr. Brian O'Hea at Stony Brook in the Carol Baldwin center is supposed to be excellent. I wish you lots of luck and a very speedy recovery

My mom absolutely LOVES her breast surgeon. She was diagnosed just about 4 years ago. His name is Dwight Derisi and he is located at 1010 Northern Boulevard in Great Neck Long Island. He is apparently loved by a LOT of people in New York according to this link.

My mom absolutely LOVES her breast surgeon. She was diagnosed just about 4 years ago. His name is Dwight Derisi and he is located at 1010 Northern Boulevard in Great Neck Long Island. He is apparently loved by a LOT of people in New York according to this link.

My mom also used Dr. Derisi, he is next to G-d in our house. He actually diagnosed her 17 years ago and she has been seeing him ever since. I see him yearly for checkups (given the family hx) and I would willingly wait for hours to see him if I had to.

If you want to stay on LI this is who I would recommend she is top of her field and has a very good reputation on LI. This is who I would use if I didn't go to Cornell or Columbia presb.

I too recommend Dr. Derisi. Dr. Derisi's daughter married a childhood friend of mine! He's also my cousin's breast surgeon. Dr. Derisi also recommened an oncologist for my cousin, Dr. Sugarman at Sloan.

I went to Dr. Kimberly van Zee at Sloan and she was PHENOMENAL. I know you're having trouble getting through, but I can't give her a good enough recommendation. She removed a lump, and *I* even have trouble remembering which breast it was from. I also know about 1/2 dozen people who were successfully treated by her. AND her bedside manner is great. It's like your mom is there.

I AGREE! My aunt, who is in medicine herself recently had a breast surgery and this was the only dr. she would see. Being that she works in the healthcare she had an inside track to the top dr's on LI and Kostroff came very highly recommended by several other dr's.

I recommended Dr. O'Hea because you said you wanted to remain in Suffolk but if you will travel, Dr. Derisi is the cream of the crop on Long Island. One of the physicians I use an expert (I'm a med mal attorney) left a very lucrative position to go and work with Dr. Derisi. But really, most of the breast surgeons affiliated with North Shore Manhasset are excellent.
