Having to cancel babysitter
I was wondering what people do when they schedule a babysitter and then plans change and they don't need the babysitter anymore. I have one scheduled and really do not need her because my plans changed, but I feel bad. Should I offer her some money? I know she takes the train from the city so she can visit her parents out here as well.

Re: Having to cancel babysitter
I would ABSOLUTELY offer her money. She put the day aside and may have said no to another possible job. I would pay her for half the time you originally asker her to sit.
The only exception is if you cancel weeks in advance.

Re: Having to cancel babysitter
How far in advance are you cancelling?
If you are giving her several days notice, I don't think I would offer to pay her, but anything less than that I would definitely pay her.

Re: Having to cancel babysitter
OK, thanks for the advice. I just booked her yesterday and when I spoke with her today and said I might not need her, she said she took the train from NYC to come to her parents house sleep over and then come to watch my kids.
I was just going to use her for 2 hours so I was thinking of giving her the cost of her tickets plus a little more. I didn't know that she moved to the city.

I think that sounds fair.

Honestly...since it was such short notice...I would pay her for the day.

If you are going to be paying her anwyay, then just go out for a few hours. Go to dinner, a movie, shopping. That is what I would do.

That's a great idea (unless the kids are sick of course).

Ditto!
Your plans changed, but go ahead and make your own new plans with DH and do something else. Don't waste the night if you already have a sitter set up.

Re: Having to cancel babysitter
Thanks for the responses. I was supposed to go to doc appt so nothing too exciting and then I have a friend that said she could watch my kids. I offered to either have her come here and still sit for the original two hours that I told her about or just give her $25.00 and she doesnt have to come. She charges 15 an hour.
I still haven't heard back from her and I have text her several times in the last few hours.
I have to leave soon and I have not heard from her so should I just bring my kids to my friends and pay her later?
