The ridiculous price of birth control pills is the reason why I've switched to just having DH use condoms. So much less expensive and no chemicals in your body.
same here!
my BC was 60 per month. I went off, and now Having major period problems (heavy bleeding, bad pain) and doc want's me back on the pill. the price is ridiculous considering viagra is practically free

I am also on Loestrin. My card expired for the 24 dollar a month charge and my pharmacy told me to call the company and get a new card. I did. Check out their website. I got all the information over the phone and brought it to my pharmacy (CVS) and they took care of everything else...Back to paying 24 dollars for 12 months...

I have insurance, but I was told on the phone and at the pharmacy that it didn't matter..It was weird when the card expired they didn't put it through the insurance, it was 44 dollars. With the insurance, it was 47 dollars.. It is stupid how insurance does things. Walmart is cheaper then most places for a lot of drugs..

holy crap -- the costs of these pills seems out of this world to me. I haven't been on BCP in a few years, and luckily our insurance covered most of the cost (co-pay $5).
I'm definitely sticker shocked!

I'm on Junel its a generic of Loestrin and $10 for a 3 month supply, $51 is crazy for a month, I would definitely see if you can be switched to something else
Same here, I went on this after my insurance changed too and I would have been paying $30/month which I thought was crazy. I pay $10/month for Junel.

I take Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo. With my insurance its $35 a month & this will be my last month of taking placebos. So I will be paying for 7 pills that will be going directly into the garbage for the rest of my life.
I am also on another prescription in which I also pay $35 a month for. Suppose to be preventing migraine headaches, yet I am still suffering.
As another poster said, I have always felt that BCP should be much more affordable.

it does really make sense.
those on insurance only pay $24/pack because their insurance is paying the difference.
the $24 charge is their co-pay.
I understand what you're saying, obviously those without health insurance most likely can't afford to pay more but in reality someone has to pay. the insurance company is paying for those who have it, the ones who don't...well, the cost goes directly to them. it sucks but getting pregnant when you're not planning to have a baby sucks more.

I take Zovia which is a generic. It costs me $10 with my insurance and I have a very minimal insurance plan.

I do have health insurance. I pay $357.00 a week for health insurance. It's disgusting.
Anyways, I contacted my doctor today and she is just going to give me a bunch more free samples.

I see what you're saying. the retail cost is $72 (according to aetna); under a normal prescription plan, the copay would be $50 b/c its a tier 4 non formulary drug(my plan is only discount until I meet a $500 deductible); So an insured person would still only pay $24; But I get it..the pharma company is going to make more from cash paying people like me b/c of the larger burden of cost.
and on an aside, i called my dr. today and he switched me to Junel and the full retail is $27.00; my copy is $15 now, not $48 or $72 which is a bit easier to deal with.

I was on Femcon and it cost me $50 a month. Thankfully I was able to get a lot of samples from my doc. But when she didnt have any I had to pay a few times and it really sucked !!

Birth Control high costs is the main reason why there are a lot of unplanned pregnancies and I think that is a violation of women rights. Now, be glad because a new health care policy is going to take place in 2013 and it will surely lift up the birth control burden from us. Starting in 2013, no insurance company will be able to charge co-pay for birth control, with specific exceptions. Contraception drugs won't cost any woman with health insurance any cash. The proof is here: Insurance companies cannot demand co-pays for birth control. Insurance companies cannot demand co-pays for birth control

I heard this on the news yesterday. They said even breast pumps are going to be free of charge. This sounds great BUT they did say that they weren't sure if the insurance companies were going to increase their premiums because of this and I think that they more than likely will so really there is no savings to us.
