Drive or fly?
Would you drive or fly from NY to Florida? 3 kids - 3 yr old and two 1 yr olds. Dh wants to fly, and normally I would too.... but now with the twins it will be only 2 adults with 3 kids.

Re: Drive or fly?
I say drive bc you can bring whatever you want with you. We drove last yr for 2 weeks when the trio was 14 months old and doing it again in Oct. I would rather fly but there is no way I am getting on a plane with 3 kids an dall my stuff it would cost me a fortune bc I need to get their own seats and then rent a SUV when we got there.....You just take your time driving and leaving after dinner ir bedtime. It took us about 18 hrs and normally takes us 15 without kids

Re: Drive or fly?
Definitely drive! We went on 3 long riad trips including florida with the twins. It is so worth it to bring anything you want. We always leave at 2 in the morning so they sleep for a good 6 hrs. We have a portable dvd player and snacks. Lol. They overall are always good! And also no need for a rental car which is another big expense

I think it would depend how long you are going for too. If it is a good amount of time I would def drive especially if you are going somewhere that you have to bring alot of stuff for the twins.
We are driving to NC in January for a family wedding. It is only 12 hours but we plan on leaving right after the last bottle of the day and driving through the night. This way they will sleep hopefully

Re: Drive or fly?
I plan on driving to FL with DD and the triplets sometime next year, so they will be between 6-10 months. But I think I will drive from now on due to the kids, cost, etc.

Fly and rent a car when we get there.
We are considering possibly going next year and will only fly. Part of that is due to DH - he claims he can't sit in a car for more than a 5 hour clip.

Re: Drive or fly?
I love road trips, but only if you will have enough time. I think you would be ok flying if you think your older DS will be really good. I can't imagine being "triple teamed" in the airport. 3 little ones against me & DH would be tough if they are all needing to be watched/chased after constantly.

Re: Drive or fly?
Nothing is planned yet as far as time but we are going there to visit an elderly family member in Vero Beach, FL. We will spend 2-3 days there. Then drive to Disney for 2-3 days. Then drive to a more "fun" beach than Vero Beach for a couple of days. We will be doing lots of driving in FL so we would need to rent a minivan or large SUV, & rent 3 carseats too. So it not only seems more conveinant to drive but a lot less expensive!
Those that drive, do you drive straight there or stop somewhere on the way?

In that case, I would definitely drive. I've heard nightmares about renting carseats. We haven't done the NY-FL drive, but have driven from IL-MA-NY and we always stop approx. halfway. We have never done it with the twins yet (but I'm itching for a roadtrip soon!) Even just with our DD we felt it was better to stop. She might have been fine in the carseat that long with brief rest stops, but we all needed the time to sleep in a bed & recharge. usually we'd stop for dinner at a decent place (we tried to avoid fast food for dinner), then get to a hotel by 8-9, sleep, get breakfast & back on the road just after rush hour. (9ish) This has always worked for us. My SIL has driven NY-GA many times & they like to go straight through & leave at night. Personally, I would hate that. I like to look at the scenery and really don't like driving at night in unfamiliar areas.
Sounds like a fun trip! Happy planning.
