New to the Board :)
HI Ladies... I stumbled across this website a few weeks ago and have found it to be very informative...I am currently pregnant and found out we are having twins :) I am so excited but obviously very nervous...It is my first pregnancy!!
I am currently at a fertility doctor and will hopefully be graduating on August 15th...The recommendation from some friends in the area is to deliver at the bigger hospital in the area because it is a Level III NICU and it is state of the art...However, my current doctor who I love, is out of a hospital with a Level II NICU...I don't know what to do...I am nervous to look for a new doctor right now but I know it is best to give birth at the hospital with a Level III NICU to be on the safer side... My biggest fear is that the twins will not have room to grow in me...I am 5 foot, 100 lbs...
SO I guess my questions for you girls are: What did you look for in a doctor and/or hospital??
ALso, did most of you girls go to 36 + weeks??
Thank you so much for your help in advance!! I am sure I will have a thousand more questions!

Re: New to the Board :)
Hi there,
Welcome and congrats!
I delivered via emergency c/s @ 36 weeks exactly.
I picked a dr that delivered at LIJ. I liked that the hospital is connected to Schneider's Children's hospital. I never really asked what level NICU they had, but know that the NICU there is excellent!
My dr also had a lot of experience with twins, although I don't know if she is considered a high-risk dr.
Maybe talk to your current dr, explain your concerns and take it from there!

Re: New to the Board :)
Welcome and Congratulations!!
I had a scheduled c-section at 37weeks and the hospital was a level II NICU...although my dr is also associated with a level III NICU. We had a discussion and had decided that we would plan for the level II hospital (I preferred this one) and if there were complications that arose than we would change it to the level III. You have to decide what you are comfortable with.
Good luck and wishing you a happy and healthy 9 months!!!

Re: New to the Board :)
Welcome and Congrats !!!
I haven't delivered yet, so I can't speak about the hospital. I will say I know IRL two other twin mommies, both are under 5 foot and I don't think either of them broke 100lbs pre babies. Both sets of twins were healthy size babies (6+), trust me they MAKE room for themselves. Just when you think you can't possible stretch, grow anymore, YOU DO You will be just fine !

Re: New to the Board :)
Welcome & Congrats!!
My doctor was a gyn only so when I graduated from my RE, I was forced to find a new OB. I thought it was important to find a dr who I really liked, but I mainly wanted someone affiilliated with a top hospital with a really good NICU.
My pregnancy was fairly smooth sailing until 24 weeks when I was admitted into the hospital for pre-term labor issues. I am currently 26 weeks and still in the hospital. Doing well for now...but will be here a couple more weeks at least if not the remainder of the pregnancy. We are just trying to make sure these babies don't come too early!! I am really glad now that I based a lot of my decisions on what hospital the dr's were affiliated with bc I have been receiving great care and I know that if the babies do come early they will be in great hands.
Good luck!!

Re: New to the Board :)
Welcome! I made it to my scheduled c/s (I had a previous c/s with my older DD and twin B had some cord issues, so I was scheduled at 38 weeks, 3 days) with no problems at all. even though we ended up not needing to use the NICU, I would try to deliver at the hospital with the best possible care. With my first DD, I moved from NY to chicago and to find a new OB, my NY OB recommended that I call the labor/delivery unit where I wanted to deliver & ask the nurses who they felt was the best OB. I thought that was a great way to find a new dr since I didn't know anyone else to ask.
I wish you a happy & healthy pregnancy!!
