What are some things your school makes you do that you think is a waste of time, a stressor, etc...
Keep in mind I teach 1st grade
*We have to hang up the "value of the month" each month is a different one. My first graders are NOT reading this, but it just one of those things you have to remember to change every month.
*we have to display a LARGE chart (that takes up good space) of all the math goals the students should meet each unit. Again, I teach 1st grade, my students are NOT referring to this at all.
*We are now having bulletin board competitions, your board has to show academic riggor and be creative, different etc..., there are 1st 2nd and 3rd place plaques to be won. This is all well in good, except its made into such a big deal by admin that teachers are spending an ridiculous amount of time on it and it takes away from real teaching. BTW... who looks at the bulletin boards? parents are only in the building on invited days (PT conf, back to school night)
*we are assigned a bulletin board topic each month (reading, writing, math etc..) this makes it so much more stressful, and takes the fun out of it, how do you show academic riggor in reading on a bulletin board? 
*Next to our daily schedule we have to write out what we are teaching for each subject. It takes up space and no one looks at it, especially 1st graders. they only care when snack or lunch is 
Im sure I will think of many more, but please share yours so I am not alone in stressing about returning to work in sept after a 15 month maternity leave

sounds like my school but i pick what is important to me. for instance all of my work on the bullitin board shows academic rigor but i dont spend anytime making it "pretty" next to flow of the day i am pretty vague about learning goals for day so i can typically use them all week

I dont think so.
It has always been like this. Its annoying. We waste such time and effort on stupid things. They are especially all about things looking nice, colorful etc...
we are an A school though. I guess I should be happy about that

Also, inservice, we have 3 per month after school sometimes for 2 hours

I will say that my SD is pretty good about the rationale behind most things. I think it makes a difference...rather than just being told.

My school does not make us do many unnecessary things. We do have PLCs, however, so different subject areas can work together. Sounds like a good idea in theory, but it really is just a waste of time.

Yeah...NC public schools don't believe in teacher aides. We have assistants, but they are only K-2. Consequently, we sit at the tables w/ our kids at lunch and take our kids out to recess, too. I've gotten used to it, but there's one day a week that the kids don't have a special...and we're with them allllllll day. It's rough.

I am in va and we have to take our kids out to recess, not as bad as having to eat lunch with them though. Although next year we are only allowed 15 min. For recess, we used to get 30.
