Finished with all of the evals at the Cody Center.

We are finished with the process, and although they are $$$$$$, I will say that I am very happy with the Cody Center.

Ava was given an ADOS as well as other testing.

Their final diagnosis is ADHD, severe anxiety and social deficits due to the ADHD and anxiety.

She is on meds now for the ADHD (which took me a looooong time to decide to do) and she needs a social skills group and individual therapy to develop coping skills for her anxiety.

While, nothing is "solved", I do feel like we finally have a clear diagnosis and can now develop a plan.

Can anyone recommend a therapist and/or a social skills group for school aged children? We live in Northport.

We had the full psychological evaluation etc in Stony brook right there. We were using Dr. Sprafkin in that building as our behavioral psychologist and we use Denise Delise who is actually a social worker as his weekly therapist. He also gets 1 on 1 and group counseling in school. Good luck with everything. I have to say I do not recommend Dr. Sverd as a psychiatrist.

I am glad you got some answers and you were happy with the Cody Center! For me, I think the worst thing was feeling in my gut that something wasn't right, but having no idea what it was or how to deal with it.

I did some research on Social Skills groups recently, though I do not have my notes with me now. I think the MidIsland JCC in Plainview has groups for school age children if I remember correctly. We didn't go there for DS, he's a little young for their groups, but I may try it in the winter when he is the right age. I'll look at my notes and see if there was something else closer to you--I have the feeling there was, but I can't remember what the name of the organization is--I suppose the Cody Center does not have an appropriate group for your DD?

They should offer social skills groups in school. You should talk to the school psychologist.
