Hamsters, Gerbails or Guinea Pigs?
Okay my daughter wants a pet so bad but a dog and cat are out for now, so I was thinking a hamster, gerbail or guinea pig?
Have any of you had experience with any of these? which is the most docile? are they easy to take care of?

I love Guinea pigs. That was my first pet. My mom did not want hamsters. They look too much like rats for her.
We loved my first little guinea pig. She was 4 days old when we got her. It was a distant aunt who gave her to me. We had several others over the years from the time I was 5 to 25 yo.

Are they hard to take care of? And do they smell? Or shed?

I had an Abyssinian guinea pig when I was in college (my friend knick named him Alf)...he was awesome...he was the almost like a dog...I would feed him fresh greens everyday in addition to his regular food and clean his cage once a week...my senile grandma lived with us at the time & i used to place him in her lap...it always made her smile.

def a guinea pig over a hamster or gerbil. They do smell if the cage isn't cleaned frequently.
bunnies are also great the floppy eared ones my dd has one and its too cute! she lets in out in her room and night and it will play with her. she trained it to ring a bell when she wants a carrot they can get big though.
I have a chinchilla she is also very sweet and never smells!

Hamsters and gerbils are the same size so if you were choosing between those two, I would say gerbils because they are less nippy. My sister and I had gerbils growing up because we lived in an apartment and my parents refused to get a dog until we got a house and we loved those little gerbils so much!
Guinea pigs seem nice too. I never had one but my friends did. I think if you can find one that isnt that skittish, then you have a great pet there.

Chinchillas are soooo cute! and i heard the same thing, that they don't smell. more expensive tho at about 100 bucks.
Hamsters were my first pet and I loved them. Used to carry them with me everywhere! The teddy bear kinds are generally more docile than the little dwarf hamsters. The downside is that they don't live very long at all. like 2-3 years. also, get them when they are young so you can tame them early.
never was a fan of gerbils because of the long tail!

I have had hamsters and guinea pigs and I would definitely choose a guinea pig.
They are a lot more interactive than hamsters and they aren't nocturnal.

I have all tons of all 3 - guinea pigs are definitely the most docile easy to play with but require the most care.
However, with rodents its all about them getting comfortable with you before you even attempt to handle them. If you attempt to much handling to soon its hard to undo that and they are far less likely to be friendly and playful.
I LOVE rodents, Im a huge rodent fan of all kinds and highly recommend them as pets though.

I have guinea pigs, honestly I don't suggest them for children. They are shy prey animals and it takes a lot of love and trust to win them over. Also they are expensive; their bedding, they eat veggies daily, lots of timothy hay (the most important thing they eat), and a high grade pellet.
Also they live 5-7 years on average.
I adore them and mine are the best ever, but basically it means it'll be your pet for the next 5-7 years, also Vet bills can be extremely high.
But if you have the time to win them over they are amazing. If you have any questions you can FM me, if you do decide to get one you really need two because they are soooo social and will become depressed alone. Then with two you need a bigger cage! Ours is built because pet store cages are too small.
I can direct you for less expensive bedding, hay...mostly online not pet stores.
Also mine are all adopted, petfinder is a good website to pick one. Lots of shelters have babies too.
