Chinese medicine and PCOS
I'm reading a great book right now about Chinese medicine and how they diagnose and treat infertility. I'll post the name later when I get home. I just wanted to share some of the things I've learned so far that Western medicine doesn't address.
BTW: Several studies have shown that accupuncture combined with IUI's and IVF's increase their success rates as much as 40%
OK, here's what I've learned so far. As I continue learning I'll add to the post. It's not easy, but what is in life really?
So far what I've learned... especially for those who suffer from PCOS...
1. NO alcohol... decreases your chances of conceiving as much as 40%.
2. No smoking.
3. No caffeine
4. No REFINED CARBS... do not eat anything that is WHITE! White flour turns to sugar which sets off a chain reaction in PCOS sufferers which causes our ovaries to produce androgens (essentially more testosterone) and that leads to an imbalance in hormones and decreased ovulate.
5. Stay away from citrus fruit, it changes the acidity in your system and can be hostile to conception. Raspberries are good but no sugar or cream.
For those with 'cold womb" and in order to increase blood flow to the womb/ovaries which decreases as a woman ages:
1. Warm baths up until ovulation and/or heating pads.
2. Most suffer from cold hands and feet so warm foot soaks for about 20 minutes a day.
3. All food must be warm... no salads... lots of soup and lots of tea... I know the perfect weather for that No ice in drinks but remember you can't have caffeine, sugar subs, high fructose corn syrup or alcohol anyway... so forget about soda, all alcohol, and juice drinks.
Of course, stress reduction exercises but NO AEROBICs or weightlifting as again, they can increase testosterone in PCOS woman.
So far this is my daily regiment:
1. Only whole grain carbs- limited to breakfast.
2. No dairy, a cold food, so I have to give up my yogurt and cheese and ice cream. I'll switch to soy cheese to put in recipies.
3. No cold drinks, ice pops etc. Only room temp. water.
4. Three cups of herbal tea a day. morning, noon and night.
5. Yoga- I'm awaiting my ferility yoga videos but I've already started doing poses that tone the core.
6. Going to bed early... by 9 pm every night.
7. Today I'm starting a daily shot of wheatgrass juice. It's available at a local health food store. It is supposed to be to the nth degree but I'm willing to do what I have to do. I'll hold my nose and cry.
As soon as I'm done grading all of my finals I'll update you on my progress and any new info I find.
I'll post the name of the book later.
I WILL BEAT THIS AND HAVE BEAUTIFUL BABIES
Cue the Rocky theme

Re: Chinese medicine and PCOS
wow this is great information! Every morning I drink Orange Juice so now I know to stay away from that. Also I LOVE ice in my water, another habit I have to quit. The hardest for me will be the carbs! Thanks, hopefully following these rules will help us conceive.

Re: Chinese medicine and PCOS
I read The Infertility Cure, as well as a few others. And have been doing yoga and acupuncture for months now. Heard it all, do what I can.
I don't have PCOS, just old, worn out and almost empty ovaries. There is no cure except to regress.
After this try I have decided to just enjoy myself, I am tired of letting this IF problem rule my life.

I'm sorry Kara. Yes, it does depend upon the diagnosis. I just have a feeling that my environment and most popular foods out there are my real enemy in this battle. You are right though, one philosophy is not going to fit everyone.

Re: Chinese medicine and PCOS
I have also done most of these things, and I am still here Hope you have better luck Theresa!
BTW, wheat grass juice is not so bad. I did it almost every day for a couple of cycles. It tastes like...grass. I think I've done shots of worse
