new homeowner - my first lesson learned - minor vent

As a housewarming gift, my parents gave me two small garden statues for good luck, and I placed them by the front door. (I wasn't concerned at all about doing this because we saw that people all around the neighborhood had similiar lawn decorations and flags, etc.)

Well, it's been just about two months since we moved in...and the statues have been taken from our front porch/entry way Chat Icon

It really, really sucks. Moving out of the city, we had hoped to escape petty stuff like this but, I guess it happens everywhere and that no place is “perfect.”

What a way to be welcomed to a new neighborhood Chat Icon

Lesson learned: not to put anything outside my home.

Just venting - thanks for listening.

Re: new homeowner - my first lesson learned - minor vent

Several years ago my parents had 2, 200-300lb gargoyles stolen from brick pile-ons on the front of their property. My Dad had actually glued them down with silicon and the theif used something to dissolve the glue.

A few months ago someone stole a wroght iron bench from their front yard.

When they reported the incidents to the police they were told it was most likely landscapers who will turn around and sell these items to their clients.

Sorry your items were stolen.

I am sorry this happened. More often than not I hear stories like this and soon find out that the people who have done this to the property are not even locals from the neighborhood but rather people from other areas. Don't be discouraged.Chat Icon

Not at all the same because it wasn't something special to us, but when we first moved into our house we were having the sidewalks redone and the contractor put up those metal gates. One night I hear some kids walking down the street I looked out the window and caught them stealing the gate. They were just fooling around. I yelled out the window: "Can you put the gate down please" They did in the middle of the street.A few days later my neighbors found a couch on their lawn. It's a pretty quiet neighborhood but that was our welcome Chat Icon

Oh I'm so sorry!!

I thought my DH was crazy - he zip ties our decorations - to our posts, our tree, etc. Apparently he's not crazy.

Probably stupid kids. So sorry!

Omg this reminds me of a funny story!!!! During that giant windstorm last year DH was getting out of the car and saw our neighbor was about to lose his blow up decoration. He went running over and was staking it back into the ground when the neighbor came out screaming..."Thief thief thief!!!!" and DH looked up. He saw it was him and was like "Oh what is going on Ted" and Ted explained. The guy apologized and got all Chat Icon !!!! Ted told him not to worry about it and had it been the other way around my husband would have tackled him, not yelled!!!

You might want to look around your neighborhood, see if maybe some kids put it on someone elses lawn.
