Random depressing thought

I'm working on college recommendations this afternoon (which is depressing in and of itself ), and sometimes I will look back at letters from past years to see how I worded certain situations if a current student has a comparable story to a former one. For the second straight year, I'm writing a letter for a student whose father was killed on 9/11. I never dreamed either of these would have to be a template. I just feel awful now.
