SOO FRUSTRATED!
DS is 10 and going to the West Hampton Beach Boces for the first time starting in September. While deciding with his school where he would go I made sure they understood I work full time and we need something with an aftercare program. They told me BOCES had one. I tried to sign up recently and they lady told me he needs to be evaluated and approvedetc and it could take SIX WEEKS! So now who is going to get DS off the bus every afternoon and #2 Why didnt anyone tell me it would take this lobg! Also, they told me schools generally only will approve one to 2 days a week! I need FIVE! She said its $60/day!   *** people!

They just suck! Don't they get it??? You work full time so there is no six week grace period. So sorry this is happening. I can imagine how mad you are.

They called me today its $80+ a day!!!!!!!!!!!!
They wanted to know if they could just transport him to his old school (hes now going to BOCES) and he can go to their aftercare program!
I said I got talked to almost weekly about them kicking him OUT! I doubt they would allow it and I cant take that stress anymore!

$80 a day....that must be a BIG FREAKING JOKE....I don't pay $80 a day for daycare at a nice center. Why work? You'll be working to pay the $1600 a month in aftercare.
Does the district have regular aftercare...like at one of the Westhampton Elementary schools? If so, why can't he go there? They are probably less than $10 per day and they should bus him there. I can't wait until DS goes to elementary school. I bet they pull the same crap in my district.

If people are actually paying $80 a day for aftercare, you and I have to quit our jobs and start our own....we'd make a killing!!!!!

well, I guess because its the BOCES program? They have to transport him from West Hampton Beach to Shoreham. Its through East End Disabilities so maybe the people have to have special training? IDK... All I know is I hope I make it home before the bus b/c theres no way in hell Im paying that!

There are a lot of afterschool programs as well as weekend programs that are covered by the OPWDD grants. You need to qualify for OPWDD though, which can take a while, but might be worth looking into. Your child needs a low IQ or a low adaptive behavior score, but since he is being schooled out of district in a specialized program, that may qualify him. I'm not sure. I would call
