Not considered Infertile...reallly?!!!
Hi all! I'm new to this site but I'm desperately seeking some insight and help. I am a carrier of a genetic didease that will get passed on during 50% of my pregnancies. I only figured this out after miscarrying twice last year and seeing doctor after doctor. I have United Healthcare/Gov't Plan and although they have great infertility coverage ($50,000 lifetime), they do not consider me infertile and will not cover any IVF procedures or the required PGD. I was told by one of the managers that becasue I could get pregnant on my own, I did not qualify for the fertility coverage. Clearly in their eyes, there is a definitive line between getting pregnant and having a child. What the hell is the point of getting pregnant if you can't have the child! I don't know if I can handle another miscarriage again. I was 13 weeks with both pregnancies.
Does anyone have any recommendations with dealing with them? My doctor has already written a letter of medical necessity.
Thanks for your help ladies!

Hi Ladies, Thanks for your response. I'm seeing Dr. Grifo at NYU.
WHat's a reproductive immunologist or an IF specialist?
How could they help?

Re: Not considered Infertile...reallly?!!!
I see Dr Braverman in woodbury. It took 3 pregnancies w another Dr before I left there and emailed Dr. B. He had me come in and ordered tons of bloodwork. (over 30 vials) within a week we found out I had 2 copies of MTHFR which is a clotting disorder. He put me on lovenox, we did a FETand I got pg w twins. Betas were great. Everything was fine until I started bleeding. Went in for sonogram to find no heartbeats. Immunological bloodwork showed my body was attacking them, acting as though they were a form of cancer. My 1st beta was yesterday. It was positive. He's treating me for elevated NK cells among other things...
