Re: DIET
I follow Weight Watchers- it is not as much as a diet as it is a lifestyle change. This makes it so liveable! I lost 60lbs 3 years ago and kept that weight off.
As far as exercise, I do cardio and resistance training about 5 days a week for about an hour.
It really takes time, patience, effort, and dedication but in the end the result is very much worth it! Good luck!

Re: DIET
Yes the south beach diet does work, and it is actually a great, healthy way of eating - IF you avoid their suggestions to eat artificial foods and sweeteners -
Eating fresh, healthy vegetables and fruit and lean protein and whole grains is the healthiest diet and will help you lose weight.
I would start out tracking your calories for a few days and see where you need to cut down.
There are lots of sites/apps that can help with this.

Re: DIET
I'm on south beach diet. I love it, because it's completely maintainable. You can eat carbs, just the right ones. I eat a lot of salads and fresh fruit for dessert. It really helps me to eat well and keeps me away from processed foods.

Re: DIET
Like Colleen, I'm on Weight Watchers. I don't really consider it a diet as much as a life-style change. I am really loving the new program because the focus is on eating right and moving more rather than eating less calories.
So, I count my points, make sure I'm getting a lot of proteins, fiber, etc.
I also try to walk at least a mile each day... and DH is buying me an exercise bike for the house today... woo!

Phase 1 is hard, I won't lie. Here's a sample meal of what I would have, and for phase 2 I just add back 2 slices of lite whole wheat toast and 1-2 servings of fruit.
Breakfast: eggs or eggbeaters, with lite sausage, V8 juice Lunch: Turkey burger with cheese and avocado, side salad Dinner: Chicken and a vegetable side dish Snacks: nuts, cheese, or a small serving of pepperoni
ETA: on phase 1 I allowed myself sort of bad foods like pepperoni and more cheese than I normally would just to get through the phase. The key at this point is to detox on sugar and get carbs out of your system before gradually bringing back the right ones. Once I hit phase 2, I cut out the pepperoni and ate less cheese. My snacks were fruit instead.

Re: DIET
Ive never prescribed to a "diet". I gained 40lbs when i was pregnant and i am below my pre pregnancy weight. I workout religiously. I do 2-3 days a week of weight training mixed with cardio and 1-2 days of just straight intense cardio. As for diet, I just eat a well balanced meal at each meal and make sure to have protein at at least 2 meals. I limit carbs, refined sugars etc, Its a lifestyle. Do i cheat? OFCOURSE. But 90% of the time this is how i live. And its paid off :)
