Does your DC watch iCarly?
DS (5) just started watching this recently. I'm wondering if I should put the cabash(sp?) on it.

My 5 yr old watches it and many of her friends do. Victorious too. I'd prefer it over Spongebob to be honest.

No here too. Some of these shows really upset me, to be honest. I do let her watch good luck Charley though it's not much better. She's almost 6.

Re: Does your DC watch iCarly?
Ds loves it (6), but the blond girl seems so mean and grumpy. I talk to ds about her a lot.
Other than icarly, he would rather watch cartoons, but oy some of them! Almost naked animals? Two stupid dogs?

Re: Does your DC watch iCarly?
DD turned 5 in June. she really loves Icarly and Victorious. I do think they are both alittle "old" for her...but most of those parts of the show go over her head anyway. A lot of the girls in her class last year were watching it too. I miss when she liked Little Bear

Re: Does your DC watch iCarly?
I let her watch it twice because her friends do- and I won't let her watch it again. DD is 5. She kept saying things like "loser" which I don't want to hear from a 5 year old.
Its sad. Disney has a lot of bad shows for young kids- My Babysitter's a Vampire??? DD saw a commercial for it and now wants to watch it. I tell her know but she makes that sound of teeth coming out- when she's mad. Just from a damn commercial.
Wizards of Waverly Place- Just what my DD needs. A girl with a bad attitude.

Re: Does your DC watch iCarly?
I don't let them, I am trying to let them remain children for a long as they can. It's not a very clever show, either...

Re: Does your DC watch iCarly?
My sons are a little older - 8 & 10 - and they watch iCarly, Victorious and Big Time Rush.
I don't love the sl's some of the time - I was really annoyed by the most recent show where they kind of made light of mental hospitals - but it is popular and we always chat about the show so I can gauge how certain things are hitting them.

Re: Does your DC watch iCarly?
My DD will be 6 next week (and her sister is 4) and no, I don't allow it. I only allow free reign to watch anything on PBSKids or Nick Jr. If she's going to watch any TV shows, they're going to be educational.
We were just on vacation (where the rules are a bit lax) and we actually watched about 10 minutes of iCarly. I must admit I chuckled to myself, but part of the issue dealt with recording and making fun of odd people on the street (for ex. a man eating a banana peel lol). It just didn't sit right with me. I mean, maybe the episode ended with them all realizing it's not cool to make fun of people, but anyway... Kids in kindergarten age are starting to mock and make fun of "different" kids anyway, why encourage it?
I just don't see why a FIVE year old needs to watch a show featuring teenagers. What are they going to watch at age 8 or 10? Or when they actually ARE teenagers? The Jersey Shore??!
Plenty of DD's friends watch it and lord knows my DS will probably be watching such shows at age 5 since his oldest sister will be 10, but for now it's not for us.

ITA with all of this. My 10 year old DS will occasionally watch it but honestly, he mostly watches Animal Planet!
My 5 year old DD is absolutely forbidden to watch it, and all Disney channel and regular nick shows. I do not understand the appeal of encouraging young children to act much older than they are, and the behavior/language that's modeled on that show is not something I want my young daughter having modeled for her.
Some kids won't imitate what they see on TV. My 5yo DD WILL. My DH nd I joke around that she's a "Mean Girl" like from the movies, but she really does have those catty, manipulative tendencies all on her own without the TVs influence. Why encourage "teenage" behavior, IMO?

Re: Does your DC watch iCarly?
I let my DD (5) watch it. I just started letting her watch cartoons on Disney and Nick that are geared towards her age and a little older and I cannot believe the things she repeats from THOSE! So I'd rather her see two teenagers kissing on iCarly than have her use some sort of disgusting potty language at the dinner table. The stuff on iCarly and Victorious totally goes over her head, the stuff on Fairly Odd Parents/Phineas and Ferb, etc., is right on her level and awful, imo.

I agree. DS picks-up worse from Spongebob and Fairly Odd Parents then he does iCarly IMO.

I agree! I try to limit tv as well. It's been 3 days and my kids haven't watched tv once. They are in the other room building blocks right now.

Mine watch all of these shows (the LO too; she will be 3 in October) and while it's better than some, I just don't like the whole boyfriend/girlfriend thing.. Just wish they could do without it..

Re: Does your DC watch iCarly?
No I dont allow my 5 1/2 year old to watch it or victorious - some of the kids in her class watch it but I said no! They are teenagers right? I think the kids her age who do watch it have older sisters etc and they watch it so the 5 year olds join in.
DD still watches Olivia, spongebob!!, max and ruby, fresh beats etc...no phineas, no victorious, no i carly etc .

Re: Does your DC watch iCarly?
I do not allow icarly. I felt bad for a bit, because ALL of her friends watch it and when they talk about it she says that she doesn't watch it because she isn't allowed....I actually let her watch one yesterday, but the content was WAAAAYYY inappropriate and even she was like mommy, this isn't for me.
So no more ICarly here....for awhile.
