Women who are trying to get back your prepregnancy body-Let's talk

How are you doing in term of your fitness goals post baby? I had two children, one right after the other. I no longer want to have kids. I am at my prepregnancy weight. (6month post partum) BUT I am not happy. I thought I would be but am so frustrated with my love handles...just loose skin. What did you do to get to where you want to be? Did you ever get there? My current weight is 125 and I am still slowly losing weight and have set a new goal of 115 but for now focusing on 120 as a short term goal. I am running, weight training and watching my calories. The weight is coming off slowly, but not from where I want it to come from. Suggestions? What are you doing to achieve your goal?

Like you, I was NOT happy at pre pg weight. Happy I got there but not happy how I looked.

I dont work out....at least often. I have 3, a 4yr old and twin boys. Where's the time?

SO, with that I turned back to WW.

It helped in the past and I knew that it would help jumpstart weight loss...and it did.

I am 9lbs lighter (fighting that last pd that I set as a goal) and I feel better but there is more work to be done.
That was also slow end of may-july.
Im also flabby, ugh...the belly area and hate my thighs.

I started to get SOME form of excercise, 1x a wk cardio kickboxing, going for walks and I am trying to get some kickboxing class 2x a wk, soon.

I believe you are doing all the right things but I have to say that diet was what helped a lot.

HTH

Re: Women who are trying to get back your prepregnancy body-Let's talk

I started a bootcamp type class one month ago. It's called xfactor fitness (Golds gym). I LOVE IT.

I do it 3 days/week, and then i run 2 other days and take a gym break on the weekends.

In one month my weight hasn't changed much (maybe 3 pounds gone??) BUT i have lost inches ...i am fitting easily into jeans straight out of the dryer (huge accomplishment LOL) and i feel amazing. I have 10 pounds till i'm happy BUT i am replacing a lot of fat with muscle.

I can't wait to see the results after 3 months of doing this!!

I have the same problem. LOOSE SKIN. No matter how much exercise it won't go back. Skin takes time, and uless you are in your young 20's it may never go back to the way it was. I also have seperation of my ab muscles and a small hernia. This large gap between my muscles makes me show bloating very easily, there is nothing in front of my intestines. It sucks because I am at my prepregnancy weight from before DC#1, and I am exercising a lot (currently training for a half marathon), and none of this is going to make a difference.

Re: Women who are trying to get back your prepregnancy body-Let's talk

Overall I'm pretty happy. I am currently 3 lbs from my preg pregnancy weight. All my pre pregnancy clothes now fit and I honestly don't think my body looks much different. My hips are a tad bit wider but my stomach went back to being pretty flat. I don't have much loose skin at all. I think working out as much as I do gave me an advantage. I worked out before, during and after pregnancy. I do believe muscle memory exists because when I started ab workouts again post baby, my body responded quickly. I find running helps!!!!!! It helps a lot, actually, and thats how I lost most of the weight. I go to the gym 5-6 times per week. Don't ever cut out strength training. That's been helping tone.

The key is not to lose too much lean body mass. I think that's what leads to loose skin. Don't do crazy diets or lose the weight too quickly. The key is to lose body fat percentage without losing lean body mass. Don't rely on the scale too much! Sometimes it doesn't mean anything.

This article helped me: The myths of loose skin
It's a good read!

Re: Women who are trying to get back your prepregnancy body-Let's talk

I'm 2 mos pp and about 8lbs from pre pregnancy weight but I was also about 4lbs heavier than I wanted to be then..in total I'd love to lose 15lbs more..I'm literally living on salads right now and don't have the time yet to work out. I'm looking into take a zumba class around here with some friends in the coming weeks if I can find time!! I wanted to buy Zumba game for the Wii as well and find time to do it while my older DD is in school and DD2 is sleeping...

After reading Kristin's response I have to say that was me after 1 pregnancy. But things are different after 2 or more... especially when for me #2 was twins and I gained 75 lbs.
If you do have seperation of the abs (diastasis recti) there are certain exercises you should do and some you should avoid. Look it up on google!

Re: Women who are trying to get back your prepregnancy body-Let's talk

i am NO where near my pre-pregnancy weight, and i know it will be a long journey for me but i am committing myself to exercise and light dieting.

i gained over 78 lbs with DC #1, that was 4 years ago.. that topped me out at 208 lbs (i am 5'4")

after having him i got down to about 150-160 before getting pregant with DC #2, and i topped out at 218 with her.

2 years later (she just turned 2 in July) i am floating between 160-165.

i have noticed my clothes fitting me a little looser straight from the dryer, my rings fit me, i can see it but i am starting to tone more.

i have about 30-40 lbs to go, and i am committed to do so... even if it takes me another year.

going to the gym alone, has made me feel so much better about myself... but i know that isnt enough...

Don't do crunches!! There are a lot of exercises you shouldn't do if you have a separation. Your best bet is planks, pelvic tilts, and leg slides. When you have diastasis recti, you want to avoid sit ups and crunches which can make the separation worse.
