Does Long Island have a poop law?

Fiogured out who has been letting their dog poop on our lawn every day without picking it Chat Icon What do I do now? General FB consensus is to pick it up and put it in her driveway. I'd like to at least tell her to clean up after her dog when I catch her in the act again, bring out a bag for her to pick it up with... is that a bad idea? I wanted to tell her it was law too, but I could only find NYC law, not LI law. I am in Suffolk if that matters.

TIA.

I know that they do - there are signs by my parents' house (I can't find the code, I looked) - but I don't know if that law applies to private property. I would contact your local precinct using the non-emergency number, or call 311, to see what you can do Chat Icon

TOB does. Look on the town's website & the search function should lead you to who you need to contact.

Re: Does Long Island have a poop law?

Not LI per se but many towns have a sign to pick up your dog poop.

you have to look in the Town you live in. The Town of Babylon has one and you can get fined and there is jail time after multiple offenses.

Pick it up, put it in a paper bag (like a lunch bag) then leave the bag open in her mailbox.

look at the towns code part of the town website. than look for dogs.animals.
i had a problem with a neighbor walking her dog unleashed( we are in an apt complex and shes letting this dog go like its her backyard)
its rediculous that she didnt even know it was a law. (i knew it and i looked it up just in case) you can always call the town. hope you get some answers

Oy! My neighbor across the street recently caught and confronted the woman who has been doing the same thing on his lawn (well her dog, not her) people are NUTS!! She REFUSED to pick it up and told my neighbor she was going to get her boyfriend! Neighbor said, go ahead and I will also call the police. Police come, woman gets an attitude with cops and still didn't pick up the poop. So, it just goes to show you can't reason with some people. I like the idea of putting it either on her lawn or in a bag on her stoop!

There are signs in my neighborhood that say PLEASE CURB YOUR DOG. People are pretty good about it. Not sure what CURB has to do with POOP though. Chat Icon I never understood that saying.

You can come to Forest Hills to make yourself feel better! I bet you it's worse here than wherever you are! Chat Icon

Everywhere you turn there is either a pile of dog shyt already or some mutt squatting on the street and its owner glancing around to see if anyone is looking and she can just walk away without cleaning up! Disgusting!!!! Chat Icon

Her dog is defacing your property....vandalism. Tell her to be a good neighbor and knock it off.

I'd do the same thing, but leave it on her porch.

Re: Does Long Island have a poop law?

I probably would leave a nice anonymous note in her mailbox or taped to her door.

If it doesn't stop, THEN leave the poop on her lawn or driveway.

Confronting her face to face might backfire as she might get very defensive....kind of like the story in one of the posts on this thread about the lady who refused to pick up after her dog even when the police got there.

Dogs are 'supposed' to go on the street/curb. That's what 'curb' your dog means. Most people don't know that and most dogs prefer grass and sidewalks Chat Icon At least this was always my understanding.
