School bus question

My mom is getting dd off the bus in the afternoon. Today she told me that all the kids at dds stop got off and dd didnt bc she was sitting on the other side and probably didnt realize it was her stop. Driver obviously had no idea she was still on. I was wondering, if the bus driver doesnt know the kindergarteners stops, what prevents them from getting off at just any stop? I am worried that dd might follow a friend off the bus prior to arriving at my moms and who would really know until the bus went to my moms without dd?

Re: School bus question

Ou bus driver always makes sure that any kid that got off the bus is met by a parent or guardian. So, even if a child WOULD get off on the wrong stop, he would be hoisted right back on the bus.

Re: School bus question

Yes, in our district our bus drivers are not allowed to release a child unless there is an adult there meeting them. There were a few days last year where I was getting out there late and the bus sat at the stop and waited for me to get there before letting Emily off of the bus.

I guess I am just thinking that if he saw my mom at the stop, why didnt he know to let her off? He closed the door and was ready to drive away. Also, at another random stop with a bunch of parents, why would he think one of those parents werent hers?

Re: School bus question

SO I just happen to run into my DD bus driver at the bagel shop. We're in three village for reference.

I commented to him that I feel lucky to have him for DD in Kindergarten since my friend in Happauge told me that the very first week of school, her DS who just started Kindergarten got off at the wrong stop and he was crying and another mom picked him up and carried him after the bus and eventually flagged him down coming around the court. Can you imagine getting DS off the bus in tears hearing this story??? I couldnt believe it.

In response to that, he tells me "you know the schools dont even give us a roster. There is nothing to tell me WHO gets off at the stops they give me. I'll get that by Oct. But right now, I make up my own list so I can keep track. So I said to him. "Are you serious? There is no correlation btwn stops and students?" He said "not until mid sept, maybe Oct. totally unorganized, happens every year. Luckily we only have 20 or so kids on our bus so I know and remember, but other drivers have almost 50. And if there are 8+ children getting off on a stop...its easy to forget"

Then in my dismay, I said "how do you know who to release the children to?" He said "they are very strong on telling us to only release them to the parents, but again they're not even giving me their names aside from the tag the Ks wear around their neck. So how am I to know grandma is the contact, or Tuesdays babysitter?"

I just cant believe it. I said to him too, You would think w. all the security in the school, they would follow through on the bus. But they dont! We def need aids on buses.

Re: School bus question

This happened to my oldest once, bus just started pulling away with my kid still on. The bus drivers don't pay attention, but they SHOULD be. Too many variables of what could happen. I am really surprised that they DON'T take it more seriously, and ensure each child is getting off with the appropriate parent, because if a child gets off at the wrong stop, gets kidnapped, etc....who is liable? The school I would think.

I had a situation where my child was supposed to be picked up from school due to staying after, like every Tuesday. I was parked in front of the elementary school, and my child was put on the bus, let off with no one waiting, and was wandering around my neighborhood. Thank god a teacher was driving through my neighborhood and saw my child looking confused while standing on the side of the road. I was LIVID. Anything could have happened!
