If you have a landscaper/people who do biweekly maintenance on your lawn...is this normal?

Do they insist on being paid the day of the services they perform?

If we are not home, my guy bills us and we promptly send the check to him.

However, if we are home, he wants to be paid that day it seems. He kind of seems annoyed/huffy if he isn't. We ALWAYS pay on time, so it's not like we are bad customers, KWIM?

He is licensed and insured and they charge tax, but he is always pushing to be paid in cash, which is also so annoying. I know he does this to get away without paying taxes, but it's so freaking annoying.

Is this normal??

It's really bothering me, but he does a great job..so it's hard to want to get a new company.

I don't know if that is normal, but since he is charging you tax, I'd pay by check. That money is supposed to go to TAXES, not his pocket. Or I'd tell him that if you pay in cash you don't want to be charged tax.

I leave a check on my back door for them every other week. They call the night before to remind us to put it out.

We get billed every month.

Did you request bi weekly or is that just what they do? I am trying to cut costs with the landscaper. Seasons over now anyway but maybe I don't need every week in the summer.

We get billed in the mail monthly. I used to have a landscaper who wouldn't show up the same day at all each week, then would ring my bell and expect payment. It was sooo annoying.

We pay cash each week. Doesn't knock on door though, we just stick it in the BBQ. Sometimes we go a couple weeks at a time w/o paying, he never says anything.

We get billed and then we call him when we are ready to pay and his wife comes and gets the cash. They are so slow with the billing - sometimes its every month, but usually like every 2 or 3 months.

We get billed monthly and mail in a check.

We get billed monthly for both houses (2 different landscapers). We pay by check to both but 1 of them we write the check out to cash and he doesn't charge us tax.

please, our landscaper is a complete 180
we call to ask for a bill, we received our first bill for the season 2 weeks ago.......billed for April to present
and found out he jacked up his rate.......

it would of been nice to know about the price increase in April or May, not September

We get monthly service and pay by check at the end of the month. I have been home when the guys came and no one ever asked me for cash.

we're usually not home when they come to do the work so it wouldn't be convenient for us to do it that way, and honestly i'd rather just mail a check in than hand someone cash anyway

We pay our guy upfront in cash for the whole season. He gives us a discount for paying up front and basically the yard is on autopilot for the season and he just takes care what needs to be done. If there are issues we see we let him know.

DH has his own business, and he has customers who he bills and some that pay cash and leave the $$$ in some spots.
I see the point of the Lanscaper. I cant tell you how many times people let their bills get so high and dont pay, or then try to make a payment. My DH has to my a living too.
I see it, if you have a plumber or painter come to the house to do a service, they want the $$ then and there right??

We kinda pay our landscaper when we pay him. If I'm home and have the cash I'll pay him when he comes, otherwise DH will get it to him (he comes weekly). I'd personally rather just get a bill from him like everyone else and pay once a month to keep on top of it.

I don't like that you say he charges tax and wants to be paid in cash. I find those types of businesses to be really shady. I don't mind giving people cash and if I can I'll try to do that instead of other payment BUT it really irks me when people insist on cash. Pay your taxes like everyone else!
