Please Help!

I found out I was pregnant last week and had my first Dr's appt today. I am 8 weeks pregnant but have always had erratic periods so didn't really think much when I skipped a month. I also didn't think much at my friends bachelorette party last weekend. By no means did I binge drink but had a couple of beers over the weekend. I also was on vacation 3 weeks prior and had maybe a drink a day.
I explained this to my ob, who is new to the practice, and they actually mentioned abortion. I'm freaking out.
Please ladies if anyone in any way can ease my mind please do.
TIA

Re: Please Help!

I dont know much about this topic since I dont drink at all but I dont think one day of drinking in moderation is that bad...also, I dont know why the Dr. is advising abortion..OMG..that seems a bit excessive..I think you need to switch Doctors.Chat Icon

Re: Please Help!

I can't BELIEVE they would mention abortion!!!! Please don't stress yourself out too much, it's not like you were doing hardcore drugs or anything. I was a few weeks pregnant with DS and didn't know it yet when I went to 2 different weddings and I had about 4-5 drinks at each one. I felt so guilty when I found out I was pregnant but my OB assured me I was overreacting. 9 months later I gave birth to a beautiful, healthy, alert little boy.

Thank you both so much for responses. I just felt absolutely terrible when she said that to me. I will stay positive and will be looking into switching OB's. This is not the first issue I've had with their office but this is hands down the harshest it's ever been. Thank you

Chat Icon I am so sorry once again. I cant even imagine how you must feel. What a horrible thing to suggest to someone Chat Icon Yknow, I watch the show "I didnt know I was pregnant" and these women go 9mths with drinking, smoking and not taking are of themselves because they didnt know they were pregnant and they go on to have healthy babies. Again, dont stress if. Im sure you'll be fine and best of luck finding a new Dr.Chat Icon

Re: Please Help!

I don't know the age, but I know the baby and you don't share the same bloodstream for weeks. The person who suggested an abortion on so little data should be shot.

OMG that's horrible! I'm sure everything will be fine. My BFF has very erratic cycles as well. When she first found out she was pregnant with her daughter she was much further along then anyone realized in the beginning. It was around the holidays and she had gone to a Christmas party and had a few drinks. She was very concerned but everything was fine and she now has a happy & healthy 3 year old. Try not to worry too much Chat Icon

WOW! Get a new dr! What a horrible thing to say. I wouldn't worry too much. Lots of people don't find out they are pregnant until 8 weeks or so and I'm sure they have done worse!

Re: Please Help!

I am sure your baby is just fine. Like everyone said, you don't share anything with your baby until 6 weeks and even after then they say a drink a day is okay. My friend got pregnant in college while she was going down a downward spiral. She was seeing this guy for 3 months and he got her hooked on coke, she was drinking a lot and smoking a lot of weed. She ended up getting pregnant by him but didn't know for a while and since she didn't know, was still doing those things. As soon as she found out she stopped instantly and turned her life around but her doctors were telling her that her baby was going to be mentally challenged, have tumors on her brain, etc. They also advised abortion but she decided not to. Her child is now 6 and the brightest girl in her class.

I'm so sorry that your dr said that to you, I couldn't imagine hearing that. I hope that you find another dr who is way better.

Congrats on being pregnant!

Re: Please Help!

OMG find a new doctor that is horrible to say! If you a fall down drunk who drank everyday the dr should talk about fetal alcholol syndrome and stuff like that. A women that had a few drinks before even knowing she is pregnant to be so harsh is very unprofessional.

Don't worry your baby is fine and God forbid something was ever to go wrong having a few drinks in the early stages would not be the cause...the stress from what the doctor said would have more cause IMO

OMG what a horrible thing to say!!! I would definitely go to a new dr. and see what they tell you. I've read online and on here that you don't share anything until 6 weeks.

I think your baby is fine since you only had a couple of drinks but definitely get a second opinion. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Please change doctors & please don't worry too much. The week after I conceived my 1st dc my dh & I went on a vacation where we drank ourselves SILLY 6 solid nights in a row...and not only is my dc fine, they're absolutely perfect in my eyes Chat Icon I can't even begin to fathom why this doctor would tell you that...if you've been unhappy with the office in the past, I'd definitely move on. Good luck Chat Icon

Re: Please Help!

wow, I can't believe they would suggest that! It's not like you were binge drinking every day since you were pregnant! Before I found out I was pregnant, I drank some beers at BBQ's and a beer garden a few times. I am not worried at all and neither is my doctor. I would definitely change doctors for your own peace of mind. Good luck~!

Wow that is unbelievable! It's not like you just found out you're 6 months pregnant and have been getting drunk every day and doing other drugs. That is very unprofessional and I would not feel comfortable ever seeing that doctor or anyone else in that practice again.

Thank you all a million times you have all made me feel better. When I told my MIL she told me when she found out she was pregnant for the 3rd time she did shots lol. Different times I guess. I totally understand that dr's have to cover their behinds but putting the fear of God in women is not the way to go about it. I honestly feel like she was talking to me like I was on 16 & pregnant. I'm an adult with a 20 month old child already. I know the rules & regulations of pregnancy I do not need to be preached to.
More than anything I was terrified I did irreversible damage to my unborn. Thank you all for the kind words and support. I appreciate it more than you'll ever know

Re: Please Help!

Know what? There are plenty of women who don't find out until they miss a 2nd period because they're irregular or have a bit of bleeding right around when their period is due and I doubt that they all elect to have abortions. I'd change to a more sensitive OB.
