First birthday and gifts

This may be a stupid question. Do I open the gifts at my twins first birthday party or do it at home, later? Obviously the babies can't do it themselves so thats no fun. I've seen it done both ways but I'm wondering what the real etiquette is.

Re: First birthday and gifts

I've actually never been to a kids birthday party where they opened the presents at the party, ever!

Especially for a 1 year old, it would really be the parents opening presents and having to ooh and ahh. Seems like a shower type thing to do. And also, I feel like it takes so long that it takes away from the party part. JMO. Don't think it's necessary.

def after...I wanted to stay organized and know who gave what..without all the distractions

I took my time, wrote it all down for future reference for thank you's, etc.

After 100%, unless it's a small party with just family.

NO! Open at home the next day. The birthday day is very exciting and they will be overwhelm by the party. I always think the next morning is the best...first is something to do...and they will be playing with the toys and will give you a break. But be aware of the people who come to the party and want the babies to open their present in front of them. Use the "rule" to everyone because if you open some presents and do not open others will be a problem.

Re: First birthday and gifts

We always save the gifts to be opened at home. And usually stretch it over a few days.
