Martial Arts - Does it really help w/kids attitudes?
I keep hearing about how karate is great for discipline, respect, self-esteem, etc. Does it really help your child in that aspect? I'm just wondering because my older son is having lots of issues with us right now and I wasn't sure if this would even help? He doesn't take classes now but I always wanted for him to. It's just a lot of money. But, if it would actually help his attitude, etc. it's worth it. WDYT? Thanks!

I think if it's the right kind of class, absolutely.
I'm sure like everywhere there are bad teachers & good teachers but I've found it extremely helpful.

Re: Martial Arts - Does it really help w/kids attitudes?
Stupid question, but what do you mean by "right kind of class"? What should I be looking for? How do I find it?
Besides his anger issue, he needs to learn self-confidence, respect, discipline, etc. I just don't know if I can get him to do it? I tried 1.5 years ago and he went to watch but was so nervous just watching. He said he doesn't know chinese (they were speaking small words) and doing it in front of people. He's a very shy kid at first but warms up very quickly.
I just don't know what to do anymore?

We knew we found a good place becasue 1. it was highly receommnded. 2. they didn't let anyone join, you had to make sure they were ready and wouldn't take our monmey until they knew one of our son's was ready. 3. They are strict but nuturing at the same time, and they know how to relate to the kids. You can tell by watching a few classes how the instructors are. Where we are go they are excellent with the kids but the kids have such repect for the teachers since they really treach that to them.
I would see about a trial at a place or two and ask around at your kid's school for some recomendations.

Re: Martial Arts - Does it really help w/kids attitudes?
Thank you!
I'll see what I can find in my area.
Can you tell me what the going rate per month is, in NY for lessons?
By me in NC, it's averaged out at $125.00 per month for 1 kids and 50% off for the 2nd one.
Still, VERY EXPENSIVE IMO!!!
