I DONT FEEL READY FOR MY 1st HALF SUNDAY
I feel like I shouldve done another long run. Most I did was 10.5 like 3 weeks ago. This week I only ran 4 miles Tues. Got a blister and needed it to heal so havent run since then.
Anyone else feel this way for their first half??

Re: I DONT FEEL READY FOR MY 1st HALF SUNDAY
You honestly will be fine. You shouldn't have ran a long run in the last 2 weeks anyways. My longest run was supposed to be anywhere between 10-12 miles, I did 11.5 but I know a few people that did 10.
Remember to conserve your energy in the first 6 miles. Only let yourself pick up speed a little after that.
I was dead by mile 10 in my half marathon a week ago but three things pushed me through 1. swinging my arms. when i swing my arms, my legs just follow. 2. adrenaline and pure heart. i was so excited to be doing my first half that it kept me going. If you can, put your name on your shirt (I went to AC Moore and got iron-on letters so that the spectators actually shouted my name when I was running past them!) Having supporting kept me motivated.
Since I'm only doing the 5k, I'm going to make sure to be at the end to cheer on friends including you! I'll be in a red tank top!

Re: I DONT FEEL READY FOR MY 1st HALF SUNDAY
I think you're good to go!
For my first half I only went up to 10, and that was 3 weeks before the race. My shin was bothering me, so I decided to rest and just do elliptical for the 3 weeks leading up. I was totally fine (aside from the heat, but you won't have to worry about that!). Just take it one mile at a time...and go get your medal, you deserve it!

Re: I DONT FEEL READY FOR MY 1st HALF SUNDAY
You are totally fine!!!! I am convinced that running is 30% physical and 70% mental. Just go out there and have fun running your first half marathon! Finishing the race is a major accomplishment! Nothing beats the feeling at the end of race.
It also helps knowing where my friends and family will be standing. I always pick up speed knowing that I will be running past my favorite people.
You will do great on Sunday! I will be there running also! No clue what I am wearing yet. When I pick up my bib I will let you know my number.

Re: I DONT FEEL READY FOR MY 1st HALF SUNDAY
Good luck! Can't wait to hear how you did.
I feet ready for mine training wise, but I started coming down with a nasty cold (thanks kids) earlier this week. I've been OD ing on Vit C pills but I got hit hard with it today. So I will be super sick for my 1st half. Nothing ever goes as planned!

Re: I DONT FEEL READY FOR MY 1st HALF SUNDAY
You will do great! Do not worry. Remember one thing:
It is better to be 10% undertrained than 1% overtrained. A good friend who works in a running store and is an Iron Man athlete once told me that. This is your first half, any finishing time is awesome. Good luck and most of all, enjoy the experience!!
