My little surprise delivery ..35 weeks...Aubrey Elizabeth

So on Wednesday night (was 34w 6d..35w midnight thursday) seemed like an ordinary day. We had our childbirth class took a hospital tour that day (littte did we know we'd be back a few hours later) and then I had went to bed around 11pm for the night. Woke up around 1am and got up out of bed to go to bathroom. When I rolled up (guess from squashing the belly) felt leaking. I assumed it was my first cant control the bladder since heard commons to drip/have accidents or lack of control during pregnancy. Went upstairs to finish going potty and to confirm the warm feeling was in fact liquid and not me going crazy and then as I went to bend to sit on toilet I felt a gush of water and heard the splash in the toilet. Again assume when i bent over and squashed stomach was forcing pee out (convenient was on toilet at least ;)

Was embarrassed and told DH (I peed myself) he thought it was cute and laughed as he was doing some work at home still and then I went downstiars to go back to sleep. When I layed down kinda felt a small warm sensation and thought..am I still leaking? Then it hit me and I thougth..wait this could be water breaking. So wen ton my black berry and did some research before I went to get DH and read happens when you lay down more frequent. Got freaked out went upstairs and told Kevin "I think my water may have broken...i'm still leaking"

Then I was all nervous and started googling online cause was too scared to call Dr. right away cause I knew they'd make me come in and was embarrassed since only 35 weeks and didnt want them just to be like yeah you peed yourself why you here..ha. Then about 1:30am started getting very minor cramping. Kind of when I knew I had to call whether I wanted to or not cause wasn't good sign. Called Dr. and then about 2ish they called back and said go to labor and delivery sounds pretty odd (especially since had cramping).

Then we rushed around house trying to pack some sort of "labor" bag...(good thing really don't need much at hospital since I used their gowns ha and just had bought travel toiletries week before!). By time got to car at 2:30am ish on way to hospital cramping was def coming and going in a pattern that was less than 5 minutes apart (more like 4 ish and lasting 45 seconds each time). Got to hospital around 3am and they took me to triage to get me checked out...

My Dr. on call wasn't in their yet so I got checked by some lovely resident that convinced wasn't the best. They did the water breaking test took some other tests and did an internal exam. When she pressed on my belly to check cervix I leaked a huge gush of fluid again and she asked "was that from me" (no **** lady) and I said yes...so she just went "well thats odd" cause she said it didn't appear my water broke but that was an odd thing to happen if it wasn't water breaking. Said my cervix was high and closed at that initial check...she said test appeared to come back both positive and negative at same time (she was really confusing me) so that they were going to wait and check me in another hour or so after fluids built back up (??) to see if can get another conclusion. Contractions were now about 3 minutes apart...45 seconds lasting....and hurting more...

They came back later on checked me again and said..."well that's weird...you are now 3 cm dialted." then my favorite part is when she goes.."well your cervix is off to the left which i didn't expect before on my first check so maybe I wasn't actually checking the cervix before" (she says this to the nurse)....then she did the test again to check for water and said we will get back to you the results are mixed still and we may have to check again later on to see whats going on but seems like you are in labor...then about hour later nurse comes in saying yes you are in labor and that i will be having baby tonight regardless if water broke or not since I am already dialtating.."

Then I was confused because my OB finally came into hospital now..and then before she checked me she just goes " i heard some confusion still so going to check you to see whats going on to see if in labor or not" (so now i was like wait i might not be staying..but assumed i was cause my contractions still were 3 min apart and hurting"....she checked and said yup you are at 5cm now so they were going to move me into a labor and delivery room...also said if you want an epidural now you can get one..to which i responded yes i do want one....

Not sure what time (since it all blurred together) actually got into labor and delivery room but it was a few hours later (2 hours later maybe)....still no epidural yet cause they were taking forever..they said i'd get one upstairs....so was still in pain (was barerable though..still 3 minutes apart and lasting around same 45 seconds each). could bare the pain was just kinda sick of them being so close with no break ha.....

So finally got to labor delivery (not sure what time)..but was still waiting for that epidural...at least another hour went by...was getting minor butt cramps too at that point...finally epidural people came in and I got my epidural! Was freaked out cause they brought a resident to watch and observe (but i had back turned so wasnt sure who was doing what) and this was after they gave 93493839 warnings to me...luckily only main anesthesiologist did it!

They kept telling me for pre-term labor they dont keep checking progress they just "let you go" til you get the urge to push and huge pressure in butt to bear down....kept saying..how will i know (since was having butt cramping and slight pressure and told them this) and they just kept saying "oh you'll know"so i assumed my pressure must not have been it since i wasn't sure and didn't know....nurse kept saying longer I wait with that butt pressure less pushing i'd have to do cause probably making way down birth canal on her own..

Finally the OB came in (was just nurses before checking in) and I told her been having butt pressure but not sure what that means cause not sure if its the urge they are talking about so she checked me and said...yup your at 10 and ready to push.... (at this time DH was going to get lunch since he thought he had more time).....this had to be around 1:30pm ish??

So they got me ready to push....my contractions neevr got any closer than 3 minutes apart so I did about 4 rounds of pushing (making progress) and they said we will start pitocin just to get them closer together since they were 3-4 min cx and would make things faster...well on the next cx i pushed and babies head started to crown ...Dr. laughed and said..well guess didnt need that pitocin....then did another push to get her pretty much all the ways there and they called the NICU/pediatrician team that had to be present....then 1 more push and she was born at 2:21pm....

Had a slight tear that they repaired....baby came out wailing..kevin said she was crying before her legs even popped out. Knew her breathing/lungs were good with the amount of crying she was doing. They said she was perfect and had no issues..she was def bigger than i thought at 5 lbcs 12 oz.

Overall actually wasn't as bad as I thought..thougth labor was going to be so much worse and contractions would be much more painful....i think my epidural was MUCH stronger in left side than right cause right side i still felt cx (just to lesser degree) but left side i felt nothing. Made it easier to push with feeling right side though....

Only bad side effect i had was took long time for my left leg to not be numb..when they moved me to post birth room still had a completely numb leg so couldn't walk for a while at all (had to use bed pan)....then later in afternoon i could finally at least lift the muscle/eg so they walked me with assistance and then really didnt get full function back to next morning.

Other than that baby doing well....she has the smallest daintiest cries for the most part (unless they were poking her with needles) and she sleeps so well. So far she isn't too bad with waking up...first night we had to wake her up so kept sleeping through..2nd night was rougher...she was lonely i think more than anything cause she would stop crying when we spoke to her or when i held her....that was ngiht they had to do the car seat test for 2 hours in nursery so we did get a nice chunk of sleep there and then finally at around 4-5am she went back to her normal 2-3 hour stretch of sleep with waking for feeding.

She sleeps most of the day...never cries unless naked...only fusses (whines slightly) when she is hungry really and easy to tell that is why cause she is usually sucking at the air or trying to eat a blanket or her hands....been pooing and peenig a bunch but we usually just check her at feedings cause she doesnt cry to tell us!
