Ready for #2 ????
How did you know you were ready for number two? My husband wants to start trying but I am not sure. My DS is 16 months old and I think he might be too little. Thoughts?

Re: Ready for #2 ????
I just knew we wanted them close in age. We started trying with my first was a year old, and got pregnant 6 months later. They are 27 months apart.
Now that we are trying for a third I needed my second son to be older because he is a handful!

Re: Ready for #2 ????
For me it's something I have been moving towards slowly. DS turned 2 last week. For the longest I didn't even think I wanted a #2. Then I found myself starting to think about it, sort of entertaining the idea. This happened maybe 6 months ago. Then I just found myself thinking about it more and more. Not ready to try, but moreso sure that I wanted to. I also made Dr.'s apptmts to get things checked out (lingering high BP after birth of DS) sort of in preparation for getting pregnant one day in the not too distant future. Then I started checking out the TTC boards and once I actually looked at the pregnancy board (about 2 weeks ago) I knew that it was just a matter of time. I'm not ready yet but I know deep down that I want to start TTC in the 1st half of 2012. This for me has been huge. Knowing that I have a start date. This is how I know that I am in essence just about ready. I'm sure I'll freak out when it gets close but I'll be able to think back and know that it wasn't something I rushed into or wasn't sure about. DH wanted to start TTC this year but I wasn't ready. No amount of convincing would have gotten me ready. For me, it has been a decision that I have had to get to on my own. HTH.

Re: Ready for #2 ????
We knew we wanted them close in age. We started trying when DS#1 was 6months and got pregnant that month.
For us, we didn't put much thought into it. If we did then DS#2 would probably not be here

Re: Ready for #2 ????
We know we want 2. Basically it comes down to timing for us. I am a teacher and took all of my sick days for my leave with my dd who is now 10 months. The only way I could get a good maternity leave next time around and still get paid is to have the baby in April or May and take off the rest of the school year and still have the summer before I have to go back.
So basically I had a choice of getting pregnant this summer and having #2 be born when dd is less than 2 1/2 or wait until the next summer and have #2 be born when dd is less than 3 1/2.
I think we decided to do it sooner than later and try this summer. DH is 40 so we don't want to wait too long.

Re: Ready for #2 ????
I will be the opposite as the other posters. I knew I didnt want 2 under 2 or anything close to that. I wanted to really relish my time with my first DS. I loved the dynamic of just him and me (I am a SAHM) I loved taking him places, I loved seeing the world through his eyes. We went on vacations including Disney 2x with just my DS.
I was ready to consider having another when DS was 18 months. But DH was not. at 2 DH was like okay maybe soon. At 2y6m DH was like I think we should have another....I was pregnant at 2y7m! and my boys are 3y4m apart.
I LOVE it. DS1 is so independent he doesnt need/want 100% of my attention anymore. DS1 wanted a sibling for awhile so there has been NO jealous at all. He was ready to share his spotlight.
Having 2 has been harder than I thought (prior to DS2's arrival I babysat FT for a 2yo so I thought it would be an easy transition) but DS2 is so different than DS1. he still doesnt STTN, he was very needy in the beginning, it as an adjustment period for all of us. But DS1 was a Godsend. He was easy in all the chaos. He never complained that we couldnt go to the park, or do some of the things we used to always do. He just took things in stride.
Its a very personal decision for everyone...for me I just wanted to fully enjoy the time of having just one child before adding to our family. It was like when we got married and we decided not to have kids for a few years so we could enjoy our lives with just the 2 of us.

Re: Ready for #2 ????
We could not afford 2 in daycare so we based it mostly on finances.

Re: Ready for #2 ????
For me, I don't think I'd ever be 100% ready. There'd always be some reason to wait just a little longer. Trying to time the "perfect" age gap, our jobs, living arrangements, finances, wanting to savor more alone time with our first DD. Sometimes, if it's something you know you want, you just have to take the leap. So many people have told me I won't regret having another, but I may regret NOT having another.

Re: Ready for #2 ????
I got pregnant with number two when dd was 17mos old. Me and my husband were undecided at first if we wanted a second child. But we discussed it and since our families are basically non existent we didnt want our dd to be alone and Im 36 and my dh is 39 we didnt want to wait we started right away for a second and God graced us with getting pregnant on the first month we started to try for number two.

Re: Ready for #2 ????
The older (and more mobile) DD gets, the more I keep pushing it back We used to say we'd start trying around 15 months, but now we're thinking of next year around this time. DD will be 21 months.

Re: Ready for #2 ????
DS is 17 months and we are going to start TTC over the next few months. DS is becoming much more independant and we would like them less than 2.5 years apart so this is perfect timing
you will know. the itch returns and then you cant get babies off your mind

Re: Ready for #2 ????
Due to IF issues, I was not sure if we would even be able to have #2. When DS#1 was 4.5 months old, I found out I was PG again!
My 2 are only 13.5 months apart. I love that they are close in age and wouldn't change it. It definitely is hard because they both are still so young (they are now 20.5 months and 6 months) but I love that they have a built-in playmate.

If I was going to have 2- I would want them at least 3 years apart. No way could I handle any less of an age gap. No way.
