If your 2nd pregnancy was a planned c-section...

If your second pregnancy was a planned c-section (and you knew ahead of time that all pregnancies after your first would be csections) when did you find out the date?

Re: If your 2nd pregnancy was a planned c-section...

DD was a planned repeat c/s and I want to say I had my due date scheduled by about 28 weeks pg. I had a lengthy discussion about it with my obgyn.

DS was breech. I had pre-eclampsia with a lot of side effects with him. I did not make my scheduled 39 week c/s for DS. With DS my water broke and I was in labor but had the emergency c/s as he was a frank footling breech.

I was able to schedule DD for 38 weeks 6 days (and yes this was after the regs about 39 weeks went into effect.) DD was a transverse breech baby. I did not want to deliver by emergency c/s again. I also wanted to schedule her birthday for a particular date so I could determine when to send her to kindergarten rather than being told when I had to send her. I ended up getting pre-eclampsia the morning I delivered her. So her birthday was really meant to be. My obgyn said had I not delivered her that morning I would have been an emergency delivery that evening.

Oh wow, I thought it was going to be sooner then that! I could have sworn that a friend of mine found out her date at one of her first appointments. I could be wrong but thats what it seemed like. Maybe every dr. is different on when they decide?

Re: If your 2nd pregnancy was a planned c-section...

The reason why my obgyn scheduled it then was that was how far out the hospital keeps its calendar.

eta: I knew my due date at my first visit. But to schedule no - how could they? What if you have complications? I would think the start of the third trimester would be normal?

28 weeks was the earliest they said they could schedule my c-section, which they did.

My #s 2 and 3 were scheduled c-sections. #2 was scheduled at 32 weeks and #3 was scheduled at 34.5 weeks (and then changed a couple of weeks after that)! This is with two different practices believe it or not!!

I think mine was scheduled around 32 weeks. My OB said it all depended on when the hospital did their scheduling. I delivered at St. Charles.

Re: If your 2nd pregnancy was a planned c-section...

I think I was 34 weeks? I was undecided about a VBAC though and by 36 weeks it was pretty clear DD was also going to be breech so we needed to schedule. Also that was the appt I had with my OB rather then one of the partners so I wanted to make sure she was going to be doing it! I know I had asked earlier and the calendar wasn't out at that point so I guess it all depends on how far out your practice schedules these things.
