Breast feeding support groups
Does anyone know of any bf support groups or meetings in Suffolk county? My baby is only 5 days old but I feel so overwhelmed and lost already. TIA.

Re: Breast feeding support groups
I don't know of any Suffolk support groups, but maybe LLL has a list online?
I just wanted to send some and let you know that I felt the same way. The first 10 days were awful, and really through the first 3 weeks were rough. But once your baby starts sleeping a bit at night and not eating as often it really does become great.
I wanted to throw in the towel every hour those first few weeks. Now at 10 weeks I'm really glad that I am able to EBF.
Good luck and congratulations - it gets way better!!!

Every Tuesday at 12 in st catherines sienna village in smithtown there is a support group run by a good friend of mine and lactation consultant. I dont have the number off hand but you may be able to find it online.

Re: Breast feeding support groups
I feel your pain. My Angelo was born 9-29 and i am still very over whelmed...i feel alone..i wish there was someone who could be at my house to advise me each step of the way. The night time is the worse. I am BF and he having alot of trouble wiht one boob., He has totally ripped it open and i DREAD the feeding time. So i feed from one breast and pump from the other. Its fustrating cause i dont know what i am doing wrong and I know its not suppose to hurt.
I have been trying to find mommy support groups that are people like us that we can talk to and be comforted. Here is what i found. There is a La Leche League of suffolk n(631-264-9539)) that meets only once a month...not that much help but a great group of people. The hospital gave me A paper for a NEW MOTHERS SUPPORT GROUP 631-376-4159. It says its a 5 week series for $50 and meets either 11-1230 or 130-3pm and is offered at good sam hospital in west islip. I think they might have some free classes there but i havent had time to find anything, i dont know how i am on here typing now.
I totally feel what your going thru and its so much easier to go thru something when you have someone else you can relate to...feel free to message me anytime and if you want to call or talk let me know and ill send you my number. Best wishes to you and your lil one.

Re: Breast feeding support groups
Yes! Hutington Hospital runs one that meets every Wed afternoon starting @1:30. It is run by an amazing LC from the hospital named Ethel. I have met so many amazing women there as well! Definitely go, you don't need to have delivered at HH to go.
ETA: It is held at the Dolan Family Health Center in Greenlawn and it's free.

Re: Breast feeding support groups
Your ped may be able to refer you to one.
This board is sooo helpful too! So many moms have great bf advice. I've been bfing for 4 months now. It will DEF get easier. We are all here to try to answer any of your questions! And you are probably doing a way better job than you are giving yourself credit for!

Re: Breast feeding support groups
All those people who say BFing comes naturally probably never tried it. It's HARD, esp in the beginning. Hang in there, mama. FM me, or any of the other ladies on the BFing Support Thread. LIF girls are really helpful!
Your ped might be able to refer you to a local group. Definitely check out local chapters of the LLL.

Re: Breast feeding support groups
We have our first ped appt on Monday, DS is 4 days old now, but we are seeing Peconic Pediatrics. Check out their webpage b/c it has a link to the Long Island Breastfeeding Medicine Center. They offer lots of support.
Breastfeeding Medicine Center
They have locations in Riverhead and New Hyde Park. If you go to the office for a lactation consult, it is covered by insurance. They can come to your house, but that is not covered. They also offer a variety of support groups for $10/session and telephone conferences for $50/session.
Good luck, I'm right there with you!

Re: Breast feeding support groups
Another recommendation for the st Catharines group... Jen is phenomenal. They meet Tuesday at noon at the community center in Siena village, just down the road from st catherines hospital on 25a. It's a one time $10 fee. Good luck... The first few days are the absolute worst, every day gets a little easier. However you decide to feed your baby, BF, pumping, formula, a combo... Just know he or she will be just fine....
