how do u handle the situation?

DD has met a new friend in school according to her its her new "BFF". I briefly met the mom once and spoke to her on the phone once however i never met the child. The girls want to get together next week and the mom wants my DD to come over after school. DO you meet the parents before hand and get to know them or go to there house first before the playdate?

BTW...Im not looking to stay at the playdate .. i have a 2 yr old at home too.

and i tried to have her come here but the mother seems to really want my DD there....

Re: how do u handle the situation?

I would honestly set up a playdate at some kind of common area on a day off of school, maybe a weekend. Maybe an open play at a bounce house, a park, a McDonald's with an indoor play area that wouldn't be dependent on the weather---to get together there first so that you can have time to get to know the mom and family before you send your DD over there alone.

I know they get to the age where they start to have drop off playdates but it makes me uneasy unless it is a family that we've known for a while and trust. A good friend that we've known for a while and I'm all for it --- it is great for both families involved --- but not for someone we just met!

I agree with Melbernai. For a first time playdate I wouldn't feel comfortable with just meeting quick and leaving. I think setting up something first where you can take time to talk and meet and if you feel comfortable, then letting her go to the house.

I would either need to know the parents or have a friend who knows the parents well before my kids went on a playmate. My dd's preschool friend invited her on a drop-off playmate, thank God I declined because when I got there (yes I went on the playmate) it was a dangerous situation. Nails and tools on the carpet...hoarding tendencies. I was glad I stuck with my gut.

My ds goes on drop off playmates with lots of friends who I know, or my friends know. It makes a difference. He started drop-offs in first grade.

This is what I would do and I would play up the fact you have a 2 year old and want her to burn some energy too and you thought it would be great to get all the girls there and to get accquanted with her (the mom).

I have a 6 month old, 4 and 5 year old and I only do drop offs with 1 person. I always stay.
