HR People

My HR dept does not ask for salary requirements in our ad and thus send me all the resumes they get for a job I need filled. When I met these people i get told "i won't get out of bed for less than 150k'. um, ok, this is a nonprofit, stay in bed!

I interview them and when they ask if i can make their requirements, i say, no. just being honest. Now, same people who want 3 digits are calling me weeks after the interview to check in. Does that mean that they thought about their situation and will take a lower salary? I asked HR to request salary requirements going forward b/c i feel like i'm wasting not only my time but the person interviewing. If they are calling to check in on status when i said i could not meet their salary demands, does that still mean i can negotiate with them for a lower salary? don't know why they call me if i am honest from interview 1, i cannot match the salary they want.

Re: HR People

I used to interview and saw this pretty frequently.

Honestly, I would pass on candidates who were like this.

I looked at it as, if they did not take the time to learn or care what the industry salary was, it sent a red flag they were going to be trouble for me down the road.

Especially if they are looking for a salary no one (even the boss!) is making at your place of employment and you can only offer them say, $40K a year. That's a pretty big leap.

More often than not though, I saw this issue with people who just lacked education and experience and obviously, they didn't meet the requirements for the position based on those two things alone.

It comes down to people just applying to anything and everything. Also, sometimes you can tell by who they supply as references that they may not be acting totally truthful on their resume either ;).
