I know I'm jumping the gun here....Christmas tree farms
If you cut down your own Christmas tree, where do you go?
We were seriously thinking about doing this this year. I'm so tired of buying a half-dead tree from a tree lot.

Re: I know I'm jumping the gun here....Christmas tree farms
Last year we did Lewins in Wading River. We'll probably go back this year. It was cheap too...$30 for any tree & a $5 deposit for the saw they give you. We had to go on the coldest day of the year last year & it was freezing. Long ride on the "hayride" tractor & then an even longer walk to the car. Not fun holding a 3 year old's hand & trying to push a stroller while DH held the heavy tree.

We go to Grandpa Tony's in Manorville every year. We love it. It's about $40-$50. We barely lose any needles. It's a family tradition now!

Re: I know I'm jumping the gun here....Christmas tree farms
Dh and I have been going to Lewin Farms the last few years. Last year it took us HOURS to find an acceptable tree. And I wasn't even thrilled with it. We were on the North Fork last weekend visiting some wineries, and thinking we may head in that direction this year.

Im not sure of the name of it but we go to one in Baiting Hollow every year. I believe it's $30 for any size tree. If you go past East Wind (on the right) it's not that much further down on the right hand side.

Re: I know I'm jumping the gun here....Christmas tree farms
For those that cut their own trees...............what kind of trees do they have? Aspen Firs, Douglas, Frasier? Just wondering. We really LOVE the Frasiers and would like to find a really nice one this year.
Also, are the trees a nice size? Full and pretty? I don't want a short, narrow, little Charlie Brown tree. TIA!

Re: I know I'm jumping the gun here....Christmas tree farms
we go to a place that is called Strawberry Fields--it is like a horse stable, but the other side is all trees and they are Frasier firs--they are all absolutely beautiful-its hard to pick one! i think they aer all 49.99 but they are totally worth it! Its on the same road as Briermere farms(25?)
They are only open like 3 weekends, starting Black Friday.

They have a whole bunch of types and they are all in certain sections. And yes, they are almost all full and nice.
