work stress/worries at home
I have so much trouble "leaving work at work." Overall I like my job and most of the time it's fine. But when something bad happens, like if i mess up, have a small disagreement with someone, or whatever, i just can't forget about it.
I had a terrible day on Friday, lots of problems at work, and then a big issue in the afternoon. None of it is really my fault. But i seriously can't stop thinking & worrying about it. And i hate ruining the whole weekend over it.
Anyone else get like this? Any advice? I wish i were one of those people who could just brush stuff off and forget about it.

Re: work stress/worries at home
I've had days like these and they ALWAYS pass.
I don't know what you do for a living, however, when I find I am having a bad day, it is usually related to the fact that I am either expecting the worst possible outcome, when there usually tends to be a solution or personalizing the situation too much.
I also have begun to really notice that others moods really affect ME at work.
I work in an all-woman office, with several really Negative Nellies so that WILL contribute to my stress level.
I have another male co-worker that I sometimes just need to avoid him and his calls because it's always drama.
If it is something else though----like you work in a really toxic environment with awful, awful people and feel threatened in any kind of way----then I would recommend looking for another job.
Ultimately though I think we ALL need to reflect and get our feelings in check when it comes to work.
At the end of the day, work is work and not something to get all crazy and emotional about.

Re: work stress/worries at home
Absolutely. Unfortunately I had a nervous breakdown 2 years ago because it just became too much in one position. Therapy helped. I still get like this, but I try to remember that every mistake is a chance to learn, and that I cannot control other people, I can only control myself.
I wish I could brush stuff off easily too. I take everything personally. But talking myself through it has helped me!

That's my issue too, i take everything SO personally. I am a natural worrier and work brings it out in the worst way. I appreciate the advice. Hope you are doing better now, sounds like you are!

Another worrier here. Also take stuff home and it drives dh batty. He's so good about helping talk me down. He's the type that nothing gets to him! Meanwhile i think the world will end. He helps put stuff in persective.
Do you have someone to talk to that can help you put it in perspective?
I find that when i hold it in i get more freaked out. The "what if" thinking its called, where you always imagine the worst.
I once ordered the lucinda bassett program, one of those things you can return in 30 days if not satisfied. I listened to as many cd's as i could and recoreded some then returned it. The main things i took away from it are stop the what if thinking, you are making up scenarios that are only in your mind, not the reality of the situation. Also to lay off coffee and chocolate( the second one is impossible for me personally) because the caffiene causes anxiety. I def notice a difference in myself if i eat a bunch of chocolate.
One more thing, a nurse co worker and i were discussing this topic recently, and her motto is "did someone die? No, ok then i can handle whatever it is". I love it!

Re: work stress/worries at home
I have many days like this, especially since i have to argue with aggressive lawyers in court who are usually guys in their 40s and 50s and like patronizing me So i totally relate.
What i do is hit the gym after work..I find that going to workout classes takes my mind off work related stress..by the time I get home, I am tired and just want to sleep and relax.
