Why can't I find feta in the store that tastes as good as the restaurants?
I always try to make greek salad at home, but the feta is always off. I have tried numerous brands.
Any recommendations for me?

Go to astoria and buy it at a store there. That's what my Greek friends told me!

This. Or try Bakaliko in Hicksville if Astoria is too far.

Try the feta at Salpino's...at the deli counter, not the pre-packaged stuff!!!

I don't buy the stuff that is 'pre-crumbled'. It's never good. Dodoni is the best brand I've ever had.

You need to Go to a Mediterranean store and get the ones in the deli section behind the counter. The ones already boxed isn't that great. There are sooo many types of Feta (Greek, Bulgarian, French etc..) I love French and Bulgarian feta. You can always ask for a sample too.

This is true. The one they sell at regular supermarkets is domestic feta. It does not have the same taste as Greek or Bulgarian. You have to go to a Greek store and buy- ask for a sample- they usually don't mind cutting a little piece for you to try. If you are looking for the ones they have at restaurants, chances are its Greek feta...
