people being rude and immature in meetings

We have a weekly meeting and people are so rude to the moderator, they talk while she talks( hate this!!!! Feels like im in kindergarden) and a department head texts and even took a call once!!! Granted the call was from the big cheese, but step the f out of the room! Dont talk in the middle of the meeting! This person texts for the entire meeting, keeps her head down and doesnt even pay attention. And this is a department head. Another supervisor is another one who talks while the moderator is speaking. Just drives me nuts.

I went to the moderator and told her how outraged i was at the rudeness in the last meeting. She's a bit of a softie so i think thats why people can get away with it but she said it will be addressed next monday.

Why do grown people have to be told how to act! ?Ridiculous.

And id like to take that crackberry and shove it up this chick's tuchus.

These idiots are everywhere. Had same experience with the group I worked with

Some ppl would EAT during meeting..and they would be the only one! ugggg. They know the time of the meeting so they could have ate before or after.

I can't stand that.

In my office, it's like there's a contest to be the last one in the room. You can count on someone showing up for a 10am meeting at 10:10 because they are too busy but now 15 people were sitting around not working while we all had to wait. Never mind that someone is there holding the meeting - their time has value too.

I see stuff like this happening at the monthly meetings we have with the people from the state who oversee the program I work for.

There are people who come that sit and text and go on facebook the whole time on their phones. And these are also people who are supervisors with a long list of (sometimes I think made-up) credentials behind their name. I've even seen them texting during team meetings with clients and their family. It's awful.

FWIW though, I've noticed the people who do this also are from an agency that has a pretty bad rep for unprofessionalism and creating drama. I always encourage the clients I work with to stay far, far away from them.

It's bad.

I know the economy has changed, and there are things people have to do sometimes at work that $uck, but overall, a lot of them are part of ANY job.

Especially the professionalism part ;).

We had a candidate look at his blackberry in the middle of an interview. Bad move.

I agree, it is rude.

I would suggest that the moderator or speaker start out the meeting by requesting everyone's FULL attention, which means turning their devices (phones, laptops, etc) off. The other thing she can do is engage them more during her speech. Call people, discuss their opinions & make it more interactive.

However if the moderator or speaker/senior manager has no issue with it, I don't see that there is much you can do.However I don't see the point of having a meeting if you're half listening.
