Someone talk to me about PIO
This is my first IVF cycle and I am a little bugged out about the PIO; i don't mind the other injuections b/c I am used to them from previos injectable cycles - but I heard this hurts!!
What is the best approach to doing the shot? Should I go to see my Dr for the 1st one - DH is worried he will hit my sciatic nerve

Re: Someone talk to me about PIO
I found that when i laid down on the couch, my muscles were so relaxed that it barely hurt . If you are nervous, maybe the nurse can mark the spot for the first time with a pen good luck!
Oh, and I always ran the shot under some warm water before injecting. It seems to make the liquid thin out a bit.

Re: Someone talk to me about PIO
Don't worry, I was terrified and really nervous about my first PIO shot, but the ladies on here gave me great advice.
I lay on my side, with a pillow between my legs, helps my muscle be more relaxed. Then I rub the injection sight with one hand and hold the syringe in the other (helps it warm up and liquify a little). Then DH gives me the shot and immediately places a heating pad on me, and gently massages the area. I still bruise and feel a little sore, but it's not too bad. I tried numbing the area before hand, but noticed that I ended up with a lump where the oil went in, so don't numb anymore. The puncture hurts, but it is over before you know it.

Re: Someone talk to me about PIO
My routine is the following:
Ice area for about 10 minutes.
DH puts the vial of PIO in a warm glass of water for about 5 of these minutes.
DH injects me and massages area.
Lay on heating pad for 10-20 minutes.
This routine worked beautifully for the first few weeks, but a few weeks ago, I started getting itchy welts on my behind. Dr. B says this is normal though. I'm so glad that I'm still on it for good reason, but I can't wait to be done.
The actual injection isn't that bad though. It's more the after effects and the whole evening routine that annoys me.

I always had the nurse mark 2 circles on my butt cheeks as the targets. When they started to fade, DH redrew them in.

Re: Someone talk to me about PIO
I used to numb the area for a few min while DH got the shot together. He would hold it in his hand while I chilled out. After injection he would take a warm towel and massage for a few min.
I used to put all my weight on the opposite foot for the side he was injecting and would lean over the bed.
I also had the nurse draw two circles on my but and DH would just continue to draw them in as they faded.

ITA except we skipped the massage and used the heating pad for a minimum of 30 minutes after.
the aftereffects are def worse than the shot itself.

Re: Someone talk to me about PIO
I actually use the heating pad for 10-20 minutes before and after. Using it before helps the needle go in nice and easy, and I believe it helps the oil to spread out and not stay in one spot. It also doesn't hurt nearly as much. Good luck!
