Re: When do you know it's time to move on and look for another job?

I have known for some time now - I honestly dread coming here every morning. Trust me I never want to work, but in the beginning I didn't mind it at all. Now I seriously want to cry every time I know I have to come back.
That is how I know I am done with here.

when your not valued as a good employee, when your hard work is not acknowledged or your not encouraged to advance within the company or when you just HATE the work you do and your boss is an selfish a-hole.

- When your job makes you cry on a regular basis
- When you work for a company that has confirmed there is no upward mobility for you
- When you dread going to work

Crying regularly.

When the overall environment and co-workers are constantly negative to the point it's interfering with your ability to get work done.

If your supervisor doesn't have your back with your clients.

When the people you work for have no boundaries and expect work to be your life.
(Note: I have seen people set themselves up for this though because they won't ever say no, so it's not necessarily the employer).

Certain things like an insane amount of fieldwork/travel, large catchement area and being told I HAVE to put a client in my car would also be a dealbreaker for me.

I dont have any of the above (except dreading certain days) but I know its time. I'm just stuck. There is no more possibilty for advancement. There's nothing wrong with remaining in the same position, but the ability to learn and grow professionally has been stunted for whatever reason, so I think it's a good indicator that its time to move on.

I think in certain fields, moving on is just good after a certain amount of time.

I know I often feel like this with the population I currently work with. (Been working with them since 2005).

I am not necessarily looking to move on from my current job because it does work for me right now in the phase of life I am in, but professionally, I have other areas I would ultimately like to pursue.

I personally think it's good to ALWAYS be looking at what's out there, because you never know when a good opportunity could come along.

Or, you just are gaining information in general for something that could be a better fit later.

Lastly, actively looking can also give you a fresh perspective about your current position, because the grass really is not greener everywhere ;).

When you are stressed to the point that it is interfering with your home life, it's time to move on IMO. Or making you depressed and miserable on an ongoing basis.

When they send out on biz trips every week, making it impossible to go on an interview. I'm in Omaha now, going to the UK to see Racheeeee, and 3 weeks with no break. I'm going to look real hard after the holidays.
