Vitamin D, has it helped anyone?

The new health "trend" seems to be Vitamin D - basically everyone in my family was put on it LOL but I am drinking the koolaid and trying out the prescription strength once a week pill

Has it helped anyone stay healthy? feel better?

Re: Vitamin D, has it helped anyone?

My DH and I were told that we were low in vitamin d and were told to each take 5k/day until we get our levels rechecked (not sure when that's supposed to be).

I have been on it for like 6wks already and I don't really notice a difference in my actual health... but then again I'm on a ton of fertility drugs that cause me to feel sweaty/anxious/bloated/you name it.. .so it's really hard to tell if I'd be feeling more energized or something from it otherwise.

I also found out I'm deficient in iron so I'm on iron supplements as well.

Do prenatals have enough of these vitamins in them or do I need to take extra on top of it?

I'm guessing it depends what your levels are so you should get them checked and ask your doctor.. but I am willing to bet your prenatal does not have enough. I have been taking a prescription prenatal for as long as I could remember and I was VERY deficient in vitamin d still.

I am going to give it a shot, its a once a week pill -- anything over the counter I would have to take 25 a week to get the same amount!Chat Icon

Re: Vitamin D, has it helped anyone?

I take over the counter vitamin D but at a dose that my doctor told me to take, which is higher than what is on the bottle label. Vitamin D helps us to maintain calcium levels and that is so important to women. I was not really expecting to see a day to day difference. I have found that I feel so much better when I spend time in the sun and I have always associated that with the fact that the sun helps us to boost vitaimin D levels. I don't think that taking the pills is as uplifting as sunshine but I still take them.

I think I may have tried to get the RX ones but they were expensive and not covered. I'm not sure if that was vitamin D but it was some sort of vitamin in high dose.

I noticed a huge difference in my hair and nails, like the above poster it is important for women to take especially to help maintain calcium levels and to prevent osteoporosis. Dr. Oz, just mentioned it helps the immune system, to which I have been able to ward off more cold than normal. I take 4000ml a day.
