4th and 5th grade teachers

can you please offer any help/adivce you can give. I was excessed this year as a reading teacher. I have been teaching reading for 6 years for grades 3,4,5. So I do have intermediate experience. I have a leave from Jan-end of school in a 5th grade classroom (same district that I taught reading in)

Can you please let me know what you use for test prep (both ELA and Math). I have always use STARS, but that is just for the reading department. Also, what do you use as far as classroom management.

Any other advice you can offer would be great...any wesbites or books that you use.

We use Kaplan for test prep...wouldn't your school have a program in place that they use for test prep? As far as management I use a check system that monitors homework and behavior. If they keep their check everyday for a month they are invited to a lunchtime party.

Do you know if there is a literacy program in place?

we used to use Kaplan, but are now using a new program similar to Coach.

we also just begun using the Treasures reading program (mcgraw hill) so we are basically doing embedded test prep in every single reading lesson we teach.

we used to also use old tests, but the format has changed so much, and still seems to be up in the air for this spring, so who knows what we will be doing come January.
