Re: medical coding/billing
My cousin just graduated with her certification, and shes having a very hard time finding a job because every company she interviews for, requires prior experience working in that field- regardless of her certification.
She's actually switching careers, and going to school again because she's having such a hard time.

Re: medical coding/billing
Keep in mind I think there are two types of classes.
1) Is a certificate program
2) A certified program.
Make sure you go with a program where you are a certified coder.

Re: medical coding/billing
I am a medical biller (not a certificied coder). I work for North shore lij hospital and have for the past 9 years. I love my job. To become a certified coder you need to take the coding test. But as a coder you can make alot of money and I know this hospital is always looking for coders.

Are there online classes where u can learn the field? Something that I want to look into but I don't have time to go to school. I would still need to work.

Re: medical coding/billing
I've been a medical biller/coder for over 15 years. It's OK, I just need a change.
I am not certified as either, although I did take coding classes I never bothered to get my certs by taking the test (never needed it since I didn't want to do coding only)
AHIMA.org aapc.org are both great resources.

Re: medical coding/billing
Im the op and I posted this awhile ago While asking around and researching it seems very hard to get a job without 2-4 years experience. BOCES does have a course. I also should add that everyone when asked told me they want out and want to switch jobs. They say after a year it was hard to bear and sort of burns you out. Maybe because of the limited social aspect?! Im not sure....
